The Worst Witch Strikes Again by Jill Murphy is the second book in the classic Worst Witch series starring the lovable but disaster-prone Mildred Hubble – possibly the worst witch ever to go to Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches . . .
‘I wonder,’ said Miss Cackle, ‘if there is any hope for you in this Academy, Mildred.’
Summer term at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches has just begun and disaster-prone Mildred Hubble is in deep trouble again – all because of the new girl, Enid Nightshade, who isn’t nearly as placid as she looks . . .
Jill Murphy started putting books together (literally with a stapler), when she was six. The Worst Witch was first published in 1974 and this much-loved classic has been enjoyed by readers for more than 30 years. Jill Murphy also written and illustrated several award-winning picture books for younger children.
If you’d like to read more of Mildred’s disastrous adventures at Miss Cackle’s Academy The Worst Witch, A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch, The Worst Witch All at Sea, The Worst Witch Saves the Day, The Worst Witch to the Rescue and The Worst Witch and the Wishing Star are also available from Puffin and are perfect for children aged 5-9.

The series revolves around Mildred and Maud in Miss Cackle’s witch school. They are boarding school stories for girls, blending witchcraft and everyday mishaps. Mildred is always clumsy and average (or below average), while Maud is loyal and gentle. There are lots of funny moments that I could resonate with when I was a teenage student.
With no disrespect to J K Rowling, The Worst Witch reminds me of Harry Potter, as both are wizardry story which takes place in a boarding school. Harry Potter has a more complex theme, involves more characters and targets at broader age range though, I adore The Worst Witch more for its originality.
I liked the monkey because it was funny.
I like this book because I love the worst witch and I like the charters in it and it is a really good book.
Poor Mildred, another great book
I liked it
I would recommend this book. It was very witchy and funny. I liked Enid best because she was the new girl and very mischievous.
Mildred is SO clumsy and disaster-prone! Summer term has started at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches, and Mildred is Dreading what the term has in store for her. Then, she is in trouble Again! Why, I hear you ask . All because of Enid Nightshade! Three times to be precise. Not counting the Grand Final of course. What grand final I hear you ask. Well, I’ll just reveal that it involves … flying on a broomstick into the middle of a school assembly. For the rest , you have to read the book.
My favourite part of this book is when Mildred goes into the new girls bedroom and gets the new girls pet monkey. My favourite character was Mildred and the monkey.
it was a really good book
I like this book because there is a new girl called Enid. She is very cheeky and funny but gets Mildred into trouble. If you like fiction stories this one is for you.
