Armed with a suitcase and an old laundry bag filled with clothes, Kasienka and her mother head for England. Life is lonely for Kasienka. At home her mother’s heart is breaking and at school friends are scarce. But when someone special swims into her life, Kasienka learns that there might be more than one way for her to stay afloat.
The Weight of Water is a startlingly original piece of fiction; most simply a brilliant coming of age story, it also tackles the alienation experienced by many young immigrants. Moving, unsentimental and utterly page-turning, we meet and share the experiences of a remarkable girl who shows us how quiet courage prevails.

This book by Sarah Crossan made me feel so grateful that I have a loving family.Since,in this book, Kasienka lived with just her mum, who didn't pay any attention to Kasienka and just wept about the disappearance of her husband who had purposely left for England. When both Kasienka and her mum left for England, 2 years later after Kasienka's dad, in hope of finding him(though Kasienka didn't want to). Kasienka also went to a new school where she got bullied by many and only had 1 friend, Dihlya, and 1 more- then -friend William.I found this book very sad, but at the end Kasienka stood up for herself and her mum got over her dad.
Book has so many exciting adventure in England. I like the character Kasienka.
Interesting book!
By the amazing author, Sarah Crossan. A book written in poetry, telling a heart breaking story. A girl and her mother have moved to England to look for the father who left. However if they do find him, who is to say it will be an happy experience like they pictured..?
I would recommend this book to my fiends because we all love these books
Amazing verse book that was very interesting. I would recommend it to people aged 10+
I liked this book because Kasadieanka and her mama travel form England to Coventry to find her Tata, who ran away. I would recommend this book to people who like sad stories.
I absolutely loved this lyrical novel! Beautifully written with a powerful storyline.
The Weight Of Water is a novel written in a beautiful, poetic style which creates a fantastic story and atmosphere. Kasienka and her mother move to England, in search of Tata, Kasienka's dad who her mother is determined to find despite Kasienka's reluctance. Kasienka encounters numerous problems throughout the book, in school and at home.
I always like a Sarah Crossan's book. This one was well done and I appreciate so much the fact that it was written in verse, the author is truly good with this writing style.
I think the story is one a lot of people could relate to, not only because of the immigrant aspect which is very prominent in the narrative, but also because of the family theme that is always present on the page.
I would categorize this book as a middle grade, but don't let this discourage you from reading it because it definitely can be enjoyed by everyone.
The poetic form is not a gimmick. It helps us to remember that the protagonist is alienated.
I really enjoyed that this book was written in poems. It covered a range of themes like family, love, bullying and friendship.
A moving story of a pre-teen Polish girl, who has come to a particularly bleak flat in Coventry with an emotionally lost Mother determined to find the husband/father who left them. Meanwhile the girl has to negotiate the unfamiliar social codes of a new and pretty unwelcing school. All this would be a good read in its own right but the extraordinary thing about this novel is that it's entirely written in verse. Works brilliantly. Highly recommended for Year 6 onwards - poetry lovers and resistors.
i enjoyed this book as it is very creative and original. it uses many techniques mainly caesura and enjambment, which makes this book unique.
This book is a great book to read for girls I think. It talks about a girl who moves away from her home town with her mum to find her mums boyfriend who ran away from them. when the girl found him he had a wife and a child. the girl found a boy who she really liked and so did he . they swam together every weekend but clair who is a bully gets in the way of her. I think this book should be for people aged 12 and over no younger. overall this is a great book that has small chapters which is easy to read.
I read a few pages and it wasn't interesting. But adults would love this.I rate this 1⭐️
