The moving story of a family’s fight to reunite after their lives are torn apart by war in Syria, from Elizabeth Laird, award-winning author of A Little Piece of Ground and Welcome to Nowhere.
Thirteen-year-old Safiya and her family have been driven out of Syria by civil war. Safiya knows how lucky she is – lucky not to be living in a refugee camp, lucky to be alive. But it’s hard to feel grateful when she’s forced to look after her father and brother rather than go back to school, and now that she’s lost her home, she’s lonelier than ever.
As they struggle to rebuild their lives, Safiya realizes that her family has always been incomplete and with her own future in the balance, it’s time to uncover the secrets that war has kept buried.

It was a heartwarming story that gripped you right till the end.
It was fiction and my favourite character was the protagonist. I would definitely recommend this book to someone else.
It was a very interesting book about war and serogation.
One of the only authors who talk about and notice the Syrian Civil War
This is sad but still good
I would recommend it to someone who is prepared for a sad yet thrilling tale!!
I liked this book because all the characters have different personalities.
I loved this book ! It really teaches us about refugees and tells us how they feel . I liked Safiya . I think many people should read this .

This story about fleeing from war and becoming a refugee, is told through the eyes of a 13 year old girl who has to grow up fast.
It highlights important and topical issues in a way which children can understand. The characters are so well-written - you either love them or hate them. Safiya, the main character, grows stronger throughout the story and easily became my favourite character.
I now want to read more books by Elizabeth Laird - that surely tells you how much I enjoyed it.
Very thought provoking and eye opening, relevant and up to date.
The characters are very real and you can't help becoming emotionally involved and empathising with them. The determination of 13 year old Safiya as she tries to keep her family together while they rebuild their lives and her journey to find out the truth about her family is gripping.
I'd definitely recommend this book, year 5 and 6 would love it!

Very exciting and heart warming but, it was quite unbelievable in places and quick to move forward.
This book is about 13 year old girl refugee from Syria. My favourite Character in 'A house without walls' is Safiya.I would recommend this book because it's very dramatic.
This was one of my favourite books as it was based on fact, the war in Syria. It showed the life of a girl and her family who had run away because of the war and discovered family secrets that the war kept hidden.
I found this a really good book because it tells a story of a girl who has a twin who was separated from her at birth. She lives with her brother and father. The girl has to go away to her uncle's and she is determined to find her twin but she is not who she expects her to be.
I thought this book was really good, that's why I gave it 4 stars.
My fav character has to be Snowball πΈπΈπΈ though I did also like Abu Ali.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a story a bit different from others.
It was really interesting reading about Safiya's journey to Jordan and learning about how she lived in a house without walls and having to cooking for everyone.
Even though I like a sad or tragic ending, this book was still awesome!!
My overall rating had to be...
