This Morning I Met a Whale

A fictional story based on the actual event of a whale being found on the River Thames in 2006. A beautiful (and sad) story of a boy who discovers the whale who tells him the story of how people are killing the world, and then goes on to pass on this message in his classroom. The story is beautifully written and full of description which draws you in, whilst relaying a really important message. I think it would be a great way to start conversations with children and start creative writing about the environment by asking questions such as;
Asking children how they would feel if they suddenly saw a whale swimming in a river. Would they believe it was true?
Why do you think the whale has come down the river?
What do the children think Michael could do to keep his promise to the whale, to help people stop damaging the environment?

It was a sad ending when the whale died on the way to the deep,blue sea. I felt sorry for the boy
because he had a very close connection to the whale.

I enjoyed this book, although it was sad when the whale died.

The Whale was the best character because he told the boy about people disasters with nature. Yes I would recommend as it teaches about the environment.

I really liked this story. I liked it was based on a real story and that it was set in London. I am going to read some more books by Michael Morpugo.

This book was exciting but sad at the same time. It is a fiction story but it is very like the real story of a bottle nosed whale that got stuck in the Thames in 2006. I liked Michael in the book because he loves all animal species. Michael is very brave because he got past his teachers and police and went in to the water to help his whale friend. Michael really cared. He did his best to help his whale buddy. I would recommend this book because I didn't want to stop reading it. Also it tells you an important message about the environment.

It was very good as it depicts a little boy finding a stranded whale in London Thames river and the whale I think was very special as it could talk. Strangely, he would only talk to younger children as his mother told him that older adults are very unhelpful and are hard to actually help. The little Michael then try to do all he can but in the end, the whale got stuck, and it could not support the sheer weight of itself. Michael was devastated as he loved the young whale as he had the guts to swim all across the ocean.

I loved the story

I loved this story a lot and I thought that the moral of the story was a good message. I did think that the story had a sad ending but I get why the author did that. My favourite character was Michael and I felt a bit sorry for him when no one believed him about the whale but was glad that they did when they found out it was on the telly. I would recommend this book to people who like sad stories and to people who like fables.

I really enjoyed this book as it taught me a lot about why we should respect every creature on this planet well.My favourite character in it was the Whale as it was very brave to come a long way up the River Thames just to try to get humans to respect them.Like the whale says, we cant survive without them and they cant survive without us.I recommend this book for anyone who likes Michael Morpurgo, and for teachers who are looking for something to read to their class.

Fanstastic book, high lighting real issues. Such a sad ending

This morning I met a whale is a great book it is based on a true story about when the whale swam into the Thames on the 20th of January 2006. Michael likes going bird whatching his mum doesn't mind as long as he doesn't wake her up. When Michael gets down to the river he see's loads of birds, but then all of them fly away. That's when the story begins.

Because I found it intresting

It has the whale who obviously is desperate to tell a human about his news and what we are doing as to talk infront of a human and risk his own life. It is like walking up to a stranger because you don't know what they'll do but you have courage. It shows the whale's desperateness to save his own kind. And by telling the boy what he came to say was (in my opinion) right as the boy can now tell other humans and find a way to prevent this problem.

This morning I met a whale is based on a real life situation so it feels quite real when you read it.its quite sad in places but that's okay.this books is about a boy who goes down to the Thames in the morning and finds a whale who starts talking to him. He wrote about it at school but no one believes him.mean while his whale gets beached will they be able to rescue him???

I think the pictures in this book are amazing! This book has quite a bit of drama I read pages every night and I must say It was very nice to read.Normally I have books that are more for kids and are quite exciting!Although when I saw this book I was intrigued by it and thought to my self well It might be a change also I noticed a name 'Micheal Morpurgo' who I have learnt is an very good writer.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes whales because it teaches you how to encourage people or animals if they find that something is difficult.
