I would really recommend this book as a fun but important read.
I enjoyed this book so much!!! It packs so much in for such a short read, and yet it never feels overly thematic. Instead it's a brilliant account of modern life, with characters that you feel you know personally. I found myself relating to little bits of everyone, remembering times when I felt exactly the same, but hadn't articulated it at the time!
Emira's character is truly inspirational. She feels completely lost and left behind in her 20s, and yet she's never not herself - a brilliant role model for anyone "coming-of-age" at any point in their life. The book tells an incredibly powerful story about status and image, and how easily we can start to use others for our own personally gains. Would recommend to 16+, especially any students who are already relating to older characters.
Didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would, found there not to be too much to the story. I did like the relationships between the characters but I didn't feel like I wanted to keep picking up the book.
This was a real page turner, couldn't put it down. Will definitely look out for more books by Kiley Reid
A novel that raises issues of race, class, wealth and privilege, families, relationships, love and friendship. The story is told with such a light touch that the reading of it is deceptively easy and the reader is left with lots to consider
