The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward. Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins. This is a tense, and sometimes very scary, psychological thriller. Published in 2017 it’s Book 8 in Carter’s Robert Hunter series, although it could certainly be read as a standalone novel. Detectives Hunter and Carlos Garcia work on only the most violent crimes, and this one concerns a serial killer who chooses his victims by scouting the streets and social media networks. I've read some of the Robert Hunter series before and enjoyed them, even though I think the protagonist is sometimes a bit too clever for his own good! This doesn't quite stack up with the other books in the series that I've read. I thought it was rather lazily plotted and I'd worked out who the killer was very early on. But despite that, I still enjoyed reading it and will continue to read books by this author when I find them.
