Ella’s mum’s in a deep coma having just had a new baby. That means Ella has to live with Jack, her hopeless stepfather and cope with her tiny newborn brother, as well as worrying about Mum. The only thing that’s going right is her school project. It’s all about whales and how they sing out to each other to attract a mate – sometimes for hours.

The mum finally wakes up, pizzazz
It was sad and happy at the same time i was really glad Ella's mum got better at the end
I like this book because it is about friendship and resilience. My favourite character was Ella because she is brave and doesn't moan a lot when she is sent to Aunt Liz's house but she can be difficult at times for instance when she is refusing to eat because she is annoyed at her stepdad, Jack.
It was a very interesting and fun book to read.
I liked that Ella never gave up on her Mum ang stayed optimistic.
It was filled with tears, anger, punches, bullying and excitement.

It was funny scary and adventurous
Although it was a sad book it always kept you guessing.
I'm my opinion I would recommend to people who are young but old enough to understand more about family and what can go wrong and what can go right. Overall this shows an important lesson that family and education ate some of the most top things we need in our lives xx
Personally I think it’s a bit to sad.
The person I liked the best was her pet Guinea pig ‘Butter Scotch’.I don’t really like the name though it sounds a bit sickly to me.Judging from the other books I’ve read I wouldn’t recommend it.
Sorry for being a bit like ‘this book is bad’ but yeah so bye'!!!
The Longest Whale Song is fantastic. I would tell you all about it but it's too good to tell.
this book is an excellent piece of literature would recommend to anyone.
I really enjoyed this book of love because it shows how family is most important. It also sends a message of how you should never give up hope and you should work with someone even if you don't like them. It feels like you can really see how much Ella has a passion for her Mum and her whales so I would recommend it to other people who want something new for a change. I think everyone should care for one another and if you think that as well then read this amazing book of joy and happiness which can attract you more than you will think!
its sad when the mum is in a coma.but it is good because the mum slowly gets better. I would recommend this to an 8 year old reader.
Good would recommend for 10-12 year olds
I loved this book. I have recently had experiences with family in comas, and it made me look at this book in a new light.
I thought this book was outstandingly good as there are lots of twists and turns I would only recommend this for smaller kids as there are very sad pieces but I would easily recommend this book
This is amazing I would recommend this book for 9+ as its a little sad
I love Jacqueline Wilson’s books and i think this one is one of my favourites. It is very sad but like all great stories it is all good in the end
I thought it was a good book. I liked Samson the best.i would recommend.
It was very sad but so good some points I was laughing some points I felt like I was going to cry
Ella's mum's in a deep coma having just had a new baby.
I loved the person Joseph, because he was very sweet and understanding, and smart. I would recommend this to someone else! I only think Ellas mum's coma was put at too much suspense and that's she should of woken up sooner, or that there should be a epilogue.
I enjoyed this book because it is about a young girl named Ella who lives with her mother and step-father named Jack. Her mother has had a new-born baby boy who is named Samson. Her step-father has to look after the baby and Ella as her mother is in a deep coma. When she heard the whale song she thought to let her mum hear this beautiful melody. Ella's mum wakes up when she hears the beautiful sounds of whales singing.
This book is a really enjoyable book and is full of a roller coaster of emotions. I enjoy Ella the most because she was brave in the story because her mother was in coma.I would absolutely recommend this to someone.
This was such a great book with amazing detail, well done Jacqueline Wilson my daughter adored this book!
My favourite character was Ella because of how she never gave up even when she had all the challenges in her way and how she was smart enough to get her mum to wake up. I liked hearing about Butterscotch the guinea pig. I love Jacqueline Wilson books and enjoyed this one. I would recommend it to people who like animals.
Really heartbreaking because Ellas mum gives birth to a baby but then goes into a coma for nearly a year.
Then,at the end of the story, she wakes up and i read that bit over and over again because it was so good.
I liked this book because it is fun to read. I would recommend this book to someone else.
