Read this fiction book as part of my prep for a new y7 unit. Seemed too young for teaching but an enjoyable read that I might recommend for outside of school.

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase was the best of the books I have read so far, aged 9 and half. My favourite part was the ending because it was so funny when Sir Willoughby was angry that his house had turned into a school. My best villain in the story was Miss Slighcarp. I would recommend this book. I want to read the sequel now!

Bonnie and her cousin Sylvia live in Willoughby Chase. Bonnie’s father and mother go abroad to help mother get better as she’s ill.
The governess teaching them while the parents are gone is called Miss Slighcarp. She dismisses all of the servants other than the disloyal ones but pattern, Bonnie’s maid hides in the house.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the danger element from the wolves and the wicked governess. I enjoyed the description of the girls characters and how they were very different but had strengths in their own way. The setting was also interesting adding in the historical element and depiction on the harshness of life during this time.

This is a great book. A true classic. It is the story of two cousins, Bonnie and Sylvia who have to work together to defeat the evil governess, Miss Slighcarp from taking over Bonnie’s home, Willoughby Chase. On their way they have to overcome many obstacles including being forced in to a workhouse. But with the help of a faithful footman and good friend Simon they eventually find overcome their battles.

Set in a previous alternate history, where James III is on the throne and wolves run wild throughout Britain, this book charts the adventures of Bonnie and Sylvia, as they are left with the unsavoury governess, Miss Slighcarp. Readers will delight in siding with the protagonists, as they try to outwit the criminal network. Suitable for KS2.

This was a book which surprisingly was not very much about wolves but about an evil governess. My favourite character was Sylvia. I would recommend it.

Some great vocabulary to challenge Year 5/6 and there is enough excitement to keep the children enthralled. Really enjoyed this.

#funfact
Did you know it is sett in a parallel universe so around 1870 they were going to build the channel tunnel but gave up so the author thought what would have happened if one winter it was so cold the wolves came through the tunnel...
the rest is yours to find out

I really enjoyed this book because I learnt so many interesting words! It was about two cousins who meet a mean governess named Mrs Slighcarp and her team of criminals.

I liked this book because I liked the idea of a poor child coming to live with a richer child. I also liked the part of the story where they were sent to the work house because it made the story more interesting.
I would recommend this book to anyone that likes reading books set in the past.

I would definitely recommend this book. It is about two young children-Bonnie and Sylvia and their wicked new governess Mrs Slighcarp. Bonnie and Sylvia need to outwit this horrible creature but can they do it in time?

It is a story about two girls named Sylvia and Bonnie, and they live in a massive house named Willoughby Chase. Whilst Sir Willoughby (Bonnie’s Dad) goes away abroad for her mother’s illness, Miss Slighcarp who is Sir Willoughby’s forth cousin, takes charge of the house. But her evil plan is to turn it into a boarding school and run it with her friend Mrs Brisktet the naughty owner of an Orphanage, and get loads of money for running their school, or more like beating the pupils and locking them in dungeons! Read more to find out how the two girls got their home back...

A great book with lots of intersting characters and plots. I loved the Willoughby palace and the residents until the villain arrived and chenged the peaceful place. I also enjoyed the descriptive vocabulary and the use of proper English.

i loved this book

25 Jun 2019

I absolutely love this book it was so so so incredible. I remember my mum reading it to me when I was quite young and not exactly understanding but loving it anyways. That is why when I found it on the year 6 book shelf I snatched it up before anybody else could take it. This a fiction book with more reality than most people realize -which I guess is what makes it so magical. My favourite characters were Bonnie and Sylvia because they are so daring and adventurous. I would recommend it to anyone in grade 4 - yr 5 plus. I did find, when reading it on my own, some parts slightly emotional.
