Another Christmas gift to enjoy in a heatwave! Again, first one from this author. Would thoroughly recommend.

I picked up this book because of the film. It's similar but also vastly different. The characters were fleshed out and seemed very human. I liked how the changed and developed over the course of the book. Definitely a book for an older reader.

I've been meaning to read this book for a long time! This sort of fantasy is not my usual choice, but I really enjoyed the madcap story and was pleasantly surprised by the humour. Howl is a wonderfully camp, flawed (often pathetic) and unlikely lead character, but I loved him all the more for that.

it is a glorious book full of fantasy elements with an awesome Japanese style film counterpart.

I bought this on the basis of having watched the wonderful animated film. The story differs somewhat from the film and I feel the characters are much more developed in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story and liked the additional parts at the end which explain the author's inspiration behind the book and her feelings on the film. There are two sequels which I will try to track down and read.

It's really good, because it has magic and adventures in one. It's really funny at the same time.

It was very funny and it had a lot of magic in it. I think it was really confusing with all the doors leading to different places. I liked that Sophie and Howl lived happily ever after. It was funny when the spell wore off and Sophie didn't notice.

I liked it because it inspired harry Potter and it was exciting

She really knows how to write books about magic and I'd forgotten how enjoyable hers are. Sophie lives with her dad, stepmother and 2 sisters but when her dad dies things become very complicated. Full of magic, wizards and witches and is aimed at 9+

I loved it when I was reading it because it was so similar to the movie and it was also really interesting.

Anything by the late Diana Wynne Jones is a winner but Howl and his moving castle remains my favourite. A fiesty, intelligent heroine in Sophie brings the pages to life alongside the magician and his apprentice, a fire demon, the Witch of the Waste, a scarecrow and much, much more. Pure, classic fantasy.

I loved this book!

Nineteen-year old Sophie sets out on an adventure to break her curse.

This was a very different story to others; I enjoyed it and hope to read others like this! It has all my favourite genres in it, I love this kind of book! I shall give this masterpiece a big five stars!

This is one of the most thrilling books I've ever read, combining mystery and magic with touches of comedy in places. The relationship between the characters is quite interesting, especially between Sophie and Howl, or even Calcifer and Michael. I would recommend this book for older readers with a liking for magic.

Really enjoyed this book and all the spells and magic. My favourite character was Wizard Howl and also Sophie's magic stick which she talked life into. Am planning to read the second book in the series.

I thought that it was a strange but amazing book. And it explains alot more than the cartoon. My favourite character was Howl's fire demon, Calcifer this is because he is funny and at times stuborn. I would definitely recommend this strange and wonderful book for for children in school years 5-7 although older children would probably enjoy it.

This novel was turned into an animated film by Studio Ghibli. I enjoyed the film but found the book better.

Brilliant book, playful and full of fairy tale knowledge, with typical Wynne Jones wit and style.

I liked Sophie best

This book is about a girl called Sophie Hatter, a hat maker. She hears about a moving castle that belongs to a teenage wizard named Howl, who acts like a baby sometimes. Sophie gets cursed by a witch and ends up as an eighty-eight year old year old travelling with Howl in his castle across different lands.
I enjoyed this book because Calcifer the demon sang a saucepan song which made me laugh. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys travelling and magic (and quite kind demons).

One of my favourite books ever! I think Howl and Sophie are amazing and they are so good together!

Amazing book but got a bit blurry towards the end, too many ideas.Still a good book though.

A slower paced but thoroughly enjoyable and magical read, this books tells the story of Sophie, cursed both by her own unfortunate attitude and then secondly by the Witch of the Waste. The writing is quite simple and accessible, but the threads of the story are many and interwoven with care, coming together effectively at the climax of the story. Also highly recommend the Studio Ghibli film of the same name which, although taking the story in a slightly different direction, is equally as enchanting. Recommended for more confident readers aged 10+

This excellent book is an absolute pleasure to read. Sophie, the main character and eldest of three girls, gets turned into an old lady by the evil Witch of the Waste, who considers Sophie's powers of animation competition. With no one to turn to, and being unable to tell anyone that she's under a spell, Sophie heads to the moving castle on the hills, where Wizard Howl may be able to help her.

This was amazing! I loved it!

I hated it.

This book is about Sophie (a sister of three) getting a curse that transforms her into an old lady and she needs Howls help to transform her back.

I loved this book because it's all about magic and adventure (so it was fantasy) and my fave character was Calcifer, the fire demon because he is funny and usually quite rude and scornful in a hilarious way. He can also be friendly, too and eager to see the outside of the castle, which he can't, unfortunately, because he signed a contract with the Wizard Howl that he would never leave. It's up to Sophie, the main character, to break the contract, but she has some problems herself...
