Really nice. I loved the idea of a hypnotic headmaster.
My favourite character is Dinah because she has a good plan for almost everything
Inspired by the book, I am asking my dad to build me a treehouse which I will turn into a private members club called SPLAT.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
Absolute classic! The plot is fast-paced; the characters are interesting and likeable and the humour is good throughout. The way the relationship develops between characters is a real treat and the cliffhanger ending is even better!
I liked the last two chapters the most. My favourite character is Dinah. I would recommend reading this book.
I like this book so much because it’s a fiction book and i love fiction books .this book is about a demon headmaster witch is trying to make the world full under his hypnotic spell. I would totally recommend this book to anyone that wants a good story to read anywhere. This book will make you smile with joy.
This book was thrilling. I was gripped the whole way through and the I just adored the plot lin. I would recommend this book for anyone who's 9 or older as it can get a tiny bit scary. This book was amazing. I have yet to read the other novels but I am sure from the writing of this one that I am soon to make a new review recommending it.
This is an exciting book. It made me feel curious at points about what was going to happen next. I’m going to read the next one now and I recommend it.
LOVE IT!!!
My favourite character is Harvey.
It was tense in some parts and it made me feel on edge! You almost can’t stop reading cause it gets so intense. I finished quickly and I would recommend it!
Scary and a brilliant build up
I love it so much. it makes me feel what the characters feel.
My favourite character was the headmaster because he could hypnotize people.
The best bit of the book was when the headmaster hypnotized the whole school so that they would follow his rules.
I would recommend this book to other readers.
I liked how Dinah used pepper to stop the Headmaster from controlling the school and defeated him in the end. I will try to read the next few books in the series.
It was brilliant! best book EVER!!!!!
I read this book because I saw the programme on CBBC and really enjoyed it so I thought I would read the book.
I thought the book was really good because there was more information in the book than the programme. My favourite character was the Demon Headmaster because he's scary, weird and people are not sure who or what he is and his eyes are frightening. My favourite bit of the book is when the headmaster is on the Eddie Hair tv show and Dinah threw a pepper pot at his face so he couldn't hypnotise everyone with his eyes because he was sneezing.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has watched the programme or like scary stories.
The original book, even tainted by nostalgia, is much better written than the later books. The details of the Headmaster's plan are more thought out, the characters are more interesting, and the Headmaster himself is a much more serious figure. In addition, the underlying story of how Dinah fits into her new home and family, and the resistance to her presence of Lloyd (her foster-brother) shows a different family dynamic without making it a big deal - very progressive for a book from the 1980s!
I like how the headmaster is evil but he actually seems quite nice!It was written a long time ago but I don't find it different from other newer books I have read.My favourite character is a girl called Dinah because (SPOILER ALERT!)she defeats the demon headmaster by throwing a pepper pot at him! I definitely recommend it.
I liked all the characters equally.
I would recommend this book to someone else.
I loved this book since it has an amazing storyline and plot to it, and the way Gillian Cross has described this plot is truly fantastic in the way that you can imagine everything is going on.
The one thing I would change is to make the book larger, hence I have given it four stars.
This book would be best suited to the age range of 9-11 years old.
This is a good children's book with an exciting story line where a headmaster at a hypnotised school tries to hypnotise the whole country.
It a pretty cool book about a Headmaster that is evil and how some children fix their school
This book was a fabulous mystery to find out what the demon headmaster was up to. With the help of Dinah's friends they find out what the Headmaster's secret's are. This book was a brilliant tale. I think the headmaster is evil and cruel and want's everything for himself. I definitely recommend this to all readers.
This book is a really funny book, it’s got lots of comedy in it, speech and it’s more of an adventurous book. It’s really nice to read and is a fiction book.
This was a great read and really easy to follow along with. The plot has a mini twist at the end. It can be slightly scary in some places so make sure you are prepared for that!
really good and is like a portal
This was a good book. There were some exciting bits like spying, missions and secrets. But there were also some bits that were a bit boring. You will like this book if you like secret missions and ideas about hypnotising.
We keep being told to get children to read relatable English classics. Most are about well off boys in the long distance past. This is a modern classic. Dina starts a new school and finds it is not all that it seems. The plot is fast paced and exciting. The story is very relatable to modern day education. The description of the Headmaster is fantastically sinister. A great fast book for any child wanting a empowered girl who saves the day.
I liked the Demon headmaster the best because it was so funny when he said "look into my eyes". one of my favourite bits was when Loyd explained what happened when the teacher tried to hypnotise him.
