I really enjoyed this book. My favourite character is Rachel because she is determined to get out of the orphanage and help her brother Robert. An excellent story of courage, determination and kindness. I really recommend this book.

This book (written by David Farr) is an unforgettable adventure that will whisk you away to another land without you needing to spend one penny on a travel ticket. Though this is a dangerous book to read because once you start reading it you can't put it down.

If you are a reader who loves adventure, chapters that will make you hold your breath and a gripping magical story, than this is the correct book for you.

Rachel and Robert live in the mythical country of Brava under the dictatorship of President Charles Malstain. Malstain hates children and as a result doesn’t allow them to play or dream, life is dull outside of home, but their librarian father is full of fun and teaches the children what it is to dream, imagine, love and trust. On her eleventh birthday Rachel’s father takes both children on an adventure after the 7pm curfew to the local library where he entrusts them with a magical book of dreams. As a result he is imprisoned and the children’s loving mother shortly after dies. The children’s loss and bereavement only strengthens them as they embark on their own adventure to not only get the book into the right hands and find its missing page but also to find and free their father and their country from the cruel and paranoid Malstain.
A cleverly written story of love, hope, trust and courage reminiscent of many dictatorships through history particularly Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and ‘40’s.

Through a series of adventures in search of their Father, each other and a missing page Rachel and Robert face challenges and danger. Although a definite magical fantasy novel I was very much reminded of the dictatorships around the world especially in Germany before, during and after World War 2. An excellent choice for year 4 onwards to read.
