A creepy magician with a shadowy act. A legend that goes back to the dawn of time. Eerie-on-Sea just got stranger. And darker…
A mysterious stage magician has set up in the theatre at the end of the pier, with an act so hypnotic and strange that Herbie Lemon and his friend Violet Parma suspect dark forces are at work. Meanwhile, folk are disappearing from Eerie-on-Sea, and no one knows why. There is an Eerie legend that goes back to the dawn of time, about a creature made of darkness that devours the shadows of the living. But could the Shadowghast really have returned?

More adventures of Herbie and Vi in Eerie on sea. this adventure see's Vi and Herbie visiting the old theatre on the pier. some of those background characters are up to no good again!
Really cool
Really good when the shadow ghost took the shadows away from the people
I like how Herbie's auntie is a magician.
I thought it was interesting as we have just learnt about shadows in Topic so this helped me learn more about them.
I read Malamander, Gargantis, Festergrimm and Mermedusa but this one is the best! I just love how there is a twist in every chapter and it makes you read the next book to find out more!!
I like this book because it was funny and I like the idea of the shadowghast. I liked how the shadowghast can steal peoples shadow. I wasn't expecting the return of eels from the last few books.
such nail bitting action
This was an ebook and I read it on train trips. I've got malamander
Too good and great cliffhanger
This book had so many thrills that I loved and I hope to find more books like this
I like the characters Violet Parma and Herbert Lemon and the adventures they had on Ghastly Night. I felt it very spooky when the Shadowghast returned and captured all of the shadows of innocent people and Sebastian Eels was in disguise of someone called Rictus. Sebastian Eels was the real Puppet Master!
mysterious thriller
When Ghastly Night arrives in Eerie-On-Sea, Herbie expects this to be a festival of extra flapjacks, extra lost things and talk of ghosts. But when the legendary Shadowghast Lantern is brought to the theatre things take an Eerie turn. A strange magician lays a claim that she is Herbie's aunt. Is someone trying to split Violet and Herbie apart?Who is behind all this? The answer lay in the claws of the Shadowghast...
An amazing book! One of my favourites! A book I love.
The Eerie-on-sea mysteries are by far my favourite book series I have read in a long time!
Herbie and Violet are a great mystery solving, adventure team!
Loved all 3 books and can not wait to read the next one (hopefully not the last one).
Thomas Taylor is truly talented, making the story come to life and not just words on paper!
Shadowghast is a shadow who haunts people when entering the theatre at the end of the pier. Herbet Lemon and Violet Parlmer (the main characters) finds out who's is the shadow. My favourite part of the story, is when the lantern of the shadow is destroyed and the waves of the sea is fierce. My least favourite part is when the Sebastian Eels capture Violet Parlmerand take her into their base.
Really scary but thoroughly enjoyable. Would totally recommend from age 10+.
I loved this book because it transported me into another world. I loved the adventure in this book as well as all the danger
Another fantastic adventure set in Eerie on Sea for Herbert Lemon and Violet Parma.
It is a Fiction I think because it's drawings do are not real to me I like all the characters and I don't think it is factual I do not know why it interested me I don't know if I want to recommend it to someone else it depends.
The reason I liked this book is because at the beginning of the story there is this mysterious person who goes up to Lady Kraken's office and then Lady Kraken asks the main character (who is called Herbert Lemon but people call him Herbie) to come up to the office too. Then the mysterious person (who says her stage name is Caliastra) says something to Herbert Lemon which is very unexpected. Later on in the book Herbert keeps talking to her because of what she told him in the office and his friend (who is called Violet Parma) gets annoyed with him and they fall out for a bit. Violet Parma's guardian goes missing and that makes Violet very cross. Somebody else goes missing as well.
I like the part at the end because it is very exciting when they are on the stage. I like it when Herbert Lemon works something out and then there is the thing again where something is revealed and then they go onto the next chapter.
My favourite character is Erwin the cat (who is the cat of the owner of the Eerie Book Dispensary who is Violet's guardian). I like the cat because he has different mood swings, because sometimes he gets cross with Violet and Herbie but then other times he tries to help them.
Love all the Eerie-on Sea books and this one is no exception. Exciting, action packed and a twist at the end. Another classic from Mr Taylor! My eight year old loved it and it is definitely one to share with my new class come September.
The best Eerie on Sea so far. I really liked the way this one built up the story
Brillant book spooky to read had to keep looking behind me when reading it hoping i will get the next book. spooky story twist!
I have been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to return to an end-of-season Eerie-On-Sea after enjoying the brilliant Malamander and Gargantis. What a spookily thrilling return! Mystery, darkness, danger and revelations are weaved in another of Eerie-on-Sea’s intriguing legends: Shadowghast is perfect to cosy up with on a dark evening as a spine-tingling tale unfolds from within its pages … just make sure you keep a candle lit!
The Grand Nautilus Hotel has some rather intriguing new guests: a theatre troupe who have been invited to stage the annual Ghastly Night Show, a shadow puppet show that promises to protect the inhabitants of Eerie-on-Sea from the Shadowghast: a creature of legend, or a dark entity hunting the living?
Imagine the surprise felt by the Hotel’s resident Lost-and-Founder, Herbie Lemon, when one of the guests discloses a startling revelation, a revelation that, if proven, will change his life …
As if getting life-changing news wasn’t enough for Herbie to deal with, he finds out from his best friend, Violet Parma, that her guardian, the owner of the Eerie Book Dispensary, has disappeared …
Herbie and Violet find themselves on an action-packed, thrilling race against time to uncover the truth behind the legend of the Shadowghast, a truth that looks into the past, takes them into dangerous situations and leads to shocking revelations. Will they be able to save the missing townsfolk before they are lost to darkness? Can they discover where the threat to the town is coming from before it is too late? Luckily, they have help from the mysterious and really rather wonderful cat, Erwin, and from a brilliant little clockwork creature that I absolutely adore.
It is just wonderful to be back in Eerie-on-Sea catching up with familiar faces and places, and enjoying the brilliant humour that Herbie injects into the narrative which perfectly balances out the darker elements. Herbie and Violet are just as likeable as I remembered them and I love their interactions as the curious, impetuous Violet is determined to find adventure, and what an adventure she finds leading up to Ghastly Night.
This is a eerily-good mystery that will take the reader on an exhilarating, edge-of-the-seat adventure to discover the truth of a deliciously dark legend: a fantastic addition to the legends of Eerie-on-Sea, and as always, I can’t wait for the next mystery to unfold.
The third instalment in the Eerie-On-Sea saga, packs in as much mystery and adventure as its two predecessors, with more spookiness to boot. I loved every word! Thomas Taylor does not miss a beat in writing stories that absorb you right into the atmospheric setting, gutsy characters, dastardly villains and thrilling plots! A book not to be missed!
I really enjoy this series. The characters are great and it was an exciting mystery with lots of atmosphere and very creepy. I can't wait for the next book.
Following on from Malamander and Gargantis, once again Herbie and Vi find Eerie on Sea changes into a sinister town once the summer season is over. I loved it. Herbie and Violet are fantastic characters and there are plenty of surprises in this Ghastly Night tale. Excellent.
