I re-read this with plans to teach it later this year. I first read this book in my first year of University. I enjoy the exploration into mental health struggles before modern-day intervention; how it was treated and perceived. I also find the accepted condemnation of women, even in family or romantic relationships, interesting. The way in which the character gradually descends as her troubles heighten is cleverly portrayed, and the symbolism is striking.
