The second title in a new series about how magical creatures came to have their gifts. Do you know how dragons got their fire? It all began once upon a magic kingdom, when a fearsome, terrifying dragon stalked the land. He was so mean he ate kittens for breakfast, he was so scary he made children scream, and he was so evil that he blew huge storms out of his jaws, which is why it was always so cold. Or so the stories said. When two children called Freya and Sylas met the dragon, they found something very different indeed… TweetReviews
Amazing artwork
I loved the illustration. It is about a little village and a dragon lives above it everyone was scared of it .2 kids go up the mountain and they find the dragon in the mountain they realise it’s cold and sad so they look after it and the villagers aren’t scared anymore.
It has a happy ending; brave children make friends with a dragon and show the villagers he’s not an enemy.
I love that the dragon made some new friends!
I liked that the dragon was liked at the end because he Warmed them all up
A colourful, adventurous tale, where Freya and Silas have been told all about the notorious dragon living outside their town, keeping everyone cold and in fear because of the storms he creates. Yet they are the only ones brave enough to go into the frozen mountains on the day when 'all the warmth left the town, and no one could bring it back.'
Feeling brave, and determined to confront the fearsome dragon, what they find is not quite what they are expecting. They see that the claims made by the people of the town are not quite true. But when Freya decides to change the narrative things improve (and warm up) for both the dragon and the town. A lovely picture book showing the power of both friendship and story, which would be great for Year One children.
The story started well but it seemed to lose direction quite quickly. Lovely illustrations 🐉
I liked this story of why dragons breath fire
I thought it was going to be scary.
I liked Sylas the best.
What a gorgeous book. This story of how dragons came to breath fire is just lovely. the colour palette of the dragon mirrors it's journey. I get the feeling it is Asian inspired due to the type of dragon-long, snake body, so could be useful when looking at China. The message of reading and sharing stories to cheer you up and as a bonding experience for friends was strong and one to help encourage reluctant readers.
