My first graphic novel. Loved it. Felt much more intimate with the characters as they talk directly to you. Loved the illustrations as well.
Poignant and moving. One to prompt discussion.
It is a bit of a deep read, yet enjoyable all the way as you follow the journey of two refugee brothers. Be ready for mixed emotions.
An amazing book with ups and many downfalls of a character. Exciting and creates an emphasis on the tough life in Africa in war.
And with amazing illustrations this book is truly one of a kind!
heart warming and makes people aware of what being a refuge is like
I think this was was a really good book - It was brimming with emotion and thoughts, and I found it impossible to put down! I recommend it to any one who wants a thought- provoking summer read! My favourite character was Nimo - I thought she was such a good friend to Maryam, and all the other kids in the camp. 5 stars!!
I liked it because it is about real people.
I really loved reading this book :
Omar and his younger brother, Hassan, have spent most of their lives in Dadaab, a refugee camp in Kenya. Life is hard there: never enough food, achingly dull, and without access to the medical care Omar knows his nonverbal brother needs. So when Omar has the opportunity to go to school, he knows it might be a chance to change their future . . . but it would also mean leaving his brother, the only family member he has left, every day.
An interesting graphic novel that made a challenging subject accessible. A little long in places.
Fantastic graphic book tackling the serious topic of refugees and life in refugee camps in Kenya - based on the experiences of Omar Mohamed. Suitable for use with all age groups.
Such a powerful story, well told and beautifully illustrated. I thought that the comic-strip style really enhanced this story and it was even more poignant knowing that it is based on a true story.
Judged this on the young illustrations and expected an easy read. It was enjoyable and would help young people to understand better the refugee problem.
Very sad story
I liked Omar the best because he is more protective. It was factual and it interested me because it was about refugees that needed a home. It taught me more about refugees. I would recommend it to other people because they have homes and need to know about these refugee kids that need a home and food.
Good book
I would recommend this book to all the children in the world because it was an exciting story. My favourite character was Hassan because he was caring for people even though he only said one word (hooya).
This is a magnificent book that I would definitely recommend to other children. The story is sad but also made me feel happy and excited.
I thought that this book was very interesting because it taught me about how hard life can be for refugees. When I had finished this spectacular comic book, I couldn't believe that it was a true story! My favorite character was Omar mainly because he was kind, smart and responsible. I would definitely recommend this book to someone else.
I really enjoyed reading this book it was quite sad but very interesting!
The best book in the world
It was all about refugees called Omar and Hassan, Mohammed and how they’ve been in the refugee camp
It's a very inspirational and life-based story, which is my absolute favourite.
This book is the first graphic novel I have read. I found that the pictures really helped to tell the story. The book was so moving that it actually made me cry. I have also learnt so much about the refugees plight.
This is a beautiful poignant book. I didn't think I would like it at first as it is the first graphic novel that I have read but the pictures really brought the story to life. I was actually moved to tears by the end of this book and felt desperate to help with the cause.
Absolutely phenomenal is every way. Would read this again and again.
Beautiful illustrations and really engaging. Vital in raising awareness of plight of refugees.
This unforgettable true story about Omar and Hassan Mohamed will change your perspective on everything. Once you have read this inspiring book you will realise that not everyone is very fortunate.
I love this book its entertaining, nice, and it's Written in a comic way
It was very good and I found out how it felt to live in a refugee camp
I really like the story its Written as a cómic and it's súper fun
It is a life story so it was quite down putting at some points but overall it was really really good and had a happy ending. I learnt about refugee camps and people who live there.
