I felt the book was a little slow but I was fascinated by the way the intriguing house kept coming back into the story. I was delighted by the bond that siblings can have for each other and there was so much love between the brother and sister despite the difference in age and differences of opinion.
A light easy read.
I absolutely loved this book and would definitely recommend it. I was attracted first of all by the beautiful cover and was not disappointed.
The story flowed effortlessly and the characters and their relationships were very credible. There were elements at first of a fairytale, with Andrea as the wicked stepmother, but as the novel progressed the storyline became much deeper and more captivating. The Dutch House itself became an important "character" in the novel, binding the events and people from many generations together.

Just couldn't wait to read this one so had a sneaky preview before it goes out to our book group next week and it's fabulous. Absolutely loved the exquisitely painful story with it's fully formed and wholly believable characters. Patchett is a very skillful storyteller making the reading effortless as she takes us through the many layers to discover family secrets, mistakes and omissions with the Dutch House, silent and ominous, playing the part of a major character. Storytelling at it's best and highly recommended. Can't wait until everyone else has read it and we can discuss....
