Little character development, but otherwise richly imagined and an interesting read. I would not recommend it as an exciting book though. It falls a bit flat.

This adventure story has a really exciting ending with many unexpected twists and turns in the plot. The whole book is full of creative and imaginative details of a world where ghosts can be brought back for a second life. I would recommend this book to KS2 children who love to get lost in fantasy worlds.

I loved the setting of Medlock and the incredible premise of this book. I enjoyed reading about the gigantrak, the huge train that runs through the city and the countryside, the factorium, and of course the imperial guild. The world was so beautifully described, even though it was complex, was completely accessible to the ages aimed for by this book and it could make for a mystical and magical class read. I also loved the characters and how complex their characters were, especially Prue and Edwin. I gave this book 3 stars though because I felt like the pacing was off in the middle section. It seemed to slow down for me and had so many questions waiting to be answered, but as I got closer to the end I started to worry about getting all the answers I needed in the pages left! I did, but it felt a tiny bit rushed. I can’t end the review without an additional mention of the bear personifate librarian, who I cannot get out of my head! I’m looking forward to reading more books by Vashti Hardy.

My first Vashti Hardy read, and well worth the wait! Winner of this year's Blue Peter Book Awards, this exciting new series for Hardy has echoes of Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' series, but with a more mechanical twist.

It had me hooked from beginning to end with epic description and an imaginative plot, engaging characters and a twist at the end which took me completely by surprise!

A worthy winner with hopefully more to come in the series!

Only just started, but it already sounds like a great book

Wow - this is a really good story but I did feel sorry for Prue because she had a really hard decision to make about keeping her brother as a second lifer. It sounds like a good school and I think I wold like to go there. I liked it too that all the characters were different but in the end they know how to make good choices.

I liked Prue but she had to work hard and make difficult choices. I'm glad I don't have to do that!

Yes, it is a good book and I'm reading it again already and I want her other books for my birthday!

This book is absolutely amazing and I recommend it to people who like fiction, twists in the story line and machines. It is about a girl called Prue who sets out on a quest to get her dead brother back. She tries to bring him back as a personifate, a ghost in a mechanical body, but not everything goes to plan… I loved this book- 5/5!

Ghostly

14 Aug 2020

The main character in this book, Prue, is awesome and brave and the plot is amazing. I didn't figure out who the villain was until they were revealed and that just adds to the many twists in this brilliantly told story.

14 Aug 2020

Loved the idea that your soul is your Wildspark. I thought it was an original idea and wasn’t expecting the twist.

I liked it because it was about robot’s, and it was exciting but sometimes scary. I would recommend this book
