I thought this was another great book by Elizabeth Laird. It deals with a family living in Syria during the war. The characters are portrayed well. It is hard not to get emotionally attached to their story, the story of countless other refugees from wars not of their making.
Welcome to nowhere is an amazing non fiction book. It highlights awareness of civil war and things happening around the world most especially Syria. My favourite character is Musa as he's very smart boy with good sense of humour.
I would highly recommend this book for each and everyone to read because I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word of it.
I loved this book because it was very interesting and it was a touchy story. I would recommend this to other people.
I really like this book. The twist in the end is shocking but I think the author could have added more to the ending.
Wow! What a book! I am ashamed to say that I was quite ignorant of the Syrian Civil War and this story has really opened my eyes. Omar lives in Syria with his family when people start to question the government. A war breaks out and the family make several moves to different locations until they finally settle in a refugee camp in Jordan. I found the whole story very moving and it is so important that we read about struggles in other countries. The book does not contain anything graphic but the themes mean it is aimed at 10+ Well done again, Elizabeth Laird!
This book raises awareness about civil war and everything that happens behind the scenes in those countries which I think is very important.
I love how it tells how the Syrian Civil War started
It made me think that real people do that and it's true. It was fiction, made up people but factual, true events. I would recommend it to someone who enjoys traveling in that sort of area.
This book communicated life as a refugee very well. My favourite character was Eman. I would recommend it if you liked A House Without Walls and The Crossing.
this book is very informative about what is happening in Syria at the moment.
i would reccomend it to anyone who likes finding out about what is happening in other places around the world.
This book was a very compelling read! A very important insight to the struggles that a family face in a war torn country and the decisions the family have to make and the lengths they will go to, to survive.
This book was non - fiction.
I liked Musa the because he was smart.
I would recommend my friends to read the book.
I really loved the book. It’s really taught me that in different countries some people like have to suffer a lot, in things like wars. It made me feel sorry for them and I want to make the world a better place.
One of the best books I’ve read this year.
I couldn’t put it down. The detail in which Omar and his family are living in war zone Syria and then the refugee camp is Neil biting stuff.
Definitely a higher KS2 book. It left nexwzntjbv more - I wanted to know what happened when they made it to Britain.
It had everything- humour, suspense, and a real tear jerker.
Would thoroughly recommend
A super story about Omar and his family as they try to escape war in Syria. This book deals so well with what is a tricky subject to understand.
This book is amazing! It's about a kid called Omar who is experiencing wars in his country (Syria) and has to flee.
This book is amazing! It’s one of my favourite books that I have ever read. This is a fiction book but it is based off the war in Syria so people have lives very much like the ones in the book. I would definitely recommend it to a mature reader, as it's quite sad but very interesting.
Another excellent book about the refugee experience. This time detailing and making apparent the situations that lead to the choice being made to leave your home.
Highly recommend
It was about war and refugees,it was action packed and my favourite ever book!
I thought it was really good and ithe shows there are people out there that are not as lucky as me.
I thought it wasn’t easy to survive in a war and when soldiers are after you...
I love this book because it is fun to read.
Fabulous characters who interact as a family in a completely realistic way. The stages of the journey give a picture of the whole flight so, in many respects, I preferred this to ‘Boy 87’ which my class enjoyed listening to last year. This likewise, ends in a hopeful way as they prepare to fly to the UK up with tinges of sadness as they remember those lost on the way.
omar is in the syrian war with his older brother (who has a disabilitie),nadyia his little sister, emman older sister and faud younger brother.
omar has to look after his family though when thier dad dies.
Welcome To Nowhere is a fantastic story about a 12 year old boy and his family. They lived peacefully in the city of Bosra, Syria but soon bombs start falling and they have no choice but to leave their beloved home. However, they can't seem to be able to get away from the bombing. Omar is the main character and he is probably my favorite.
The story is about a boy whose family have to go and live in a refugee camp and struggle to find food. This actually happens in real life.
This is a great book. Would highly recommend.
It is about a boy called Omar who lives in Syria with his siblings and parents. They are a happy and content family, but when his older brother Musa get's involved with some dodgy business wars evolved everywhere around them. Before long, their family are forced to flee Syria, but where do you go when you can't go home?
i have not finished it yet but it is really good
probably my fave book so far
it is set in the middle east about the war
I loved this book and would recommend it to everyone who is aged 9-109!
