I loved this ultimately uplifting book although the underlying message about the treatment of some domestic helpers would leave anyone in a state of shock and despair. The exquisite details painted a picture of Singapore and brought to life the expats and their Filipina helpers. Having lived in Singapore as an expat I found myself smiling as I could easily identify with some of the main elements of the expat characters that had been portrayed in this book. The story was compelling, told with humour and moved at a good pace. The dialogue was nicely handled, particularly that of the two main Filipina characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would be surprised if anyone is not moved by the plight of women working as domestic helpers.
