‘A history-tragic-comedy all rolled into one,’ says WOLF HALL author Hilary Mantel, ‘An enthralling puzzle-picture of a book’ (M.R. Carey), perfect for fans of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and Gormenghast with a dash of Neil Gaiman and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Great escapism. Bizarre, hilarious, mysterious and very intriguing. At first it was a total joy with its dizzying array of eccentric characters and no way of knowing which were goodies and which were baddies. But as it went on it got more and more convoluted and less and less believable. Left with mixed feelings overall. It's the first of a trilogy and I shan't be reading the next two.
