A fabulous fantasy heist novel that will leave you rooting for every character, no matter how despicable their motivations or unforgivable their past. This book blows the roof off (and the walls down) on whatever you thought reading a book was before you picked this one up! Try it! I dare you!
amazing book very well written lots of plot twists would defo recommend
The characters, setting, plot - basically everything about it - is put together so well. I remember when some of characters were stuck in a situation - a seemingly impossible situation to get out of - and I was led to believe there was no way out of it, when suddenly the author finds a way for everything to work out perfectly, and you're thinking 'How did I not think of that?'. If you're craving entertainment and adventure during the long summer days or a distraction for the never-ending homework your teachers told you was easy, I would definitely recommend this book.
I like this book because of it being a thriller adventure fantasy.
I absolutely love this book, the characters, the settings are all really well developed, with the characters all being unique and distinct, easily memorable with their personalities. The book is really well written, with a good plot and timeline, and well descripted events, with things not seeming too rushed or too slow. It made me laugh at times, and it also switches moods from character to character. so we get to know what the other is really thinking.
I think that something that is quite controversial about this book is the world it's set in, and the character's personalities of the main character. This is a dystopian novel, so it does have pleasure houses, and is based in the slums of the city. I think that yes, the world its set in isn't great, however, it's a dystopian novel, so I think that's okay. For the characters, yes we are made to see a lying, selfish, greedy thief as a good person, however, for me, all of these characters are more representations of different paths people have taken in their lives, but that doesn't make them less human.
Overall, this book for me was just amazing. Funny, descriptive, unique. I fell in love with the characters and this story, because of the way its written. It's definitely a story that I'll always remember.
“No mourners,”
“No funerals.”
Honestly, I thought this book was quite good. The beginning felt really slow, and had a very long start. I considered not continuing; I did, and I’m pleased. I really enjoyed the magical aspects of the Grisha, but spent most of the time trying to untangle who the characters were. I really liked Jesper and Wylan, and they were my favourite characters! 4 stars-very interesting, but the beginning wasn’t great.
its was so interesting to read. loads of plot twist and the author kept you on the edge. totally recommend to someone else
The medieval-esque fantasy world created by Bardugo is wonderfully complex yet weirdly familiar. The characters are richly mysterious and compelling and the premise is exciting.
It took me a few chapters to really get into the story, probably because of the multi-character narratives. However, as the story progressed this narrative style became almost addictive as I wanted to know what was happening with each.
I was hooked!
As part of a duology the end obviously isn't the end and I have been left with the fear and speculation of waiting to find out how it is going to end.
The story if filled with adventure, new lands, prejudices that need to be broken down and a group of rogues who somehow become highly endearing and wonderfully developed.
Highly recommend to all - even if fantasy isn't your usual kettle of fish!
This book is not really my favourite but it has a big adventure and thy would have to kill all their friends until there was one person left
Great book, really interesting plot. I enjoyed the take on the grishnaverse kingdom from the different point of view than the first 3 books I’m the series. You can read the books without reading the other ones too. Characters were really interesting and I liked how the chapters switched between each characters view and perception of others. Ideal for teenagers aged 13/14+
I absolutely love the raven duo-logy, and both books have become my favourite books! Its such an adventure and the characters are just brilliant, I love all things fantasy so these books warmed my heart!
This book is very well written. I could imagine the characters and settings clearly because of the detailed description. My favourite characters are Nina, Inej and Kaz because of their different personalities and epic weapons (described in the book). I would recommend this book to a mature 12 year old and above because of some language and gory scenes. The only problem with this book is that it is a bit of a slow start but other than that it is really good.
Six characters that you can't help falling in love with and a quest that was doomed from the start. What can I say? It'll sure quench your thirst for fantastical books!
