It a very nice book to read
This book is about a man who stole money from a child named Emil. Emil was supposed to bring £7 to his grandma and meet his cousin called Pony. The man got arrested but Emil needed help from quite a lot of other children called The detectives. It’s interesting because children can be good detectives.
Emil is very smart
This story was o.k. Some bits were really good and others dragged on a bit. The idea of the story was great and I really liked the character of Emil.
This book is about Emil, a young boy sent to Berlin, with some money for his grandmother. On the train, a man is acting mysteriously; the next thing he knows, both the man and the money have gone!
By reading this book, you can join the chase, when Emil and his friends assemble to track down the thief.
This book is fun, action and adventure packed and keeps you turning the pages.
I would highly recommend this book to readers of all ages.
Selected for use in a Year 3 class.
Story based around the main character of Emil who is taking a train journey to se his Grandmother. He is sent off by his single parent mother who gives him £7 in an envelope which he pins into his pocket. He falls asleep on the train and the money goes missing!
Emil suspects one of the train passengers and goes on a mission to catch the thief and get his money back. As the story unfolds, Emil meets a group of children who help him to catch out the thief.
Positives:
My year 3 class really empathised with Emil and his predicament.
The story up to when Emil realises the money has gone gave lots of fantastic writing opportunities including alternative endings to the story.
Excellent links to Berlin and city living - required for our cross curricular topic.
Negatives:
Rather dated. Written in 1931, there are some references not appropriate for modern day - e.g. when the thief slaps Emil around the face.
Translated from German, the language in this book is clunky and it does not flow when reading aloud. Many of my colleagues struggled to pronounce the German surnames and places.
Once Emil began to set a trap for the thief, enthusiasm for this book within my class plummeted.
I thought it was a good book and I liked Pony because she was funny. I got worried when Emil was on the train tracking down the thief .
I think this book is good. The thing that it makes you remember is not to look at your money in public. I like detective books a lot
It is ok. Though adventures await Emil in Berlin. I recommend it.
This was a fictional story, a tale of mystery and intrigue.
Emil is on his way to visit his Gran in Berlin when his money is taken by a fellow train passenger. Along with a group of equally determined children he meets in Berlin, he manages to follow the thief and retrieve his money.
I liked the way the all the main characters in the story were children as it made it easier to relate to.
Yes, I would recommend the book.
I liked the book. It is about Emil who has some money stolen and then tries to catch the thief.
my favourite character is Gustav, the leader of the boys, because of how he used his motor horn.
I would recommend it to someone else
Emil Tischbein is going on a train to Berlin to give money to his grandmother. His money gets stolen. Can he get it back?
I would recommend this book because it's exciting.
It was amazing. The money being stolen,KID detectives solving the mystery...this book is hair-raising
