I understand this book is the third in a trilogy, which may explain why I was left confused about why Breen and Hibou were living with the Tozier family on a farm, and allusions to, but not clear explanations of the circumstances of Breen’s shooting and his relationship with Helen.

I did not like the wide spacing of the text, which made me feel I was reading a child’s book.
It was obviously set in the 60s, in order to ensure a close enough temporal relationship with the Kenyan Mau Mau movement. This was something the author seemed compelled to remind up off with clunky references to Minis and Twiggy and pop stars of the time.

The connection between the three men in the photo was cleverly spun out.
It made sense in the context of the Mau Mau issue, but some rather dense historical detail was shoe horned into too short a portion of the novel.

Enjoyable and readable but not something I would normally read.
