Recommended by two grade 6 pupils who have been encouraging me to read it for a long time ... and I am so pleased they persisted! This is a rollicking good read; dark, mysterious, full of intrigue and sinister goings-on that keep you guessing as the plot thickens and the twists keep coming. The plot is pacy, the characters are exceptionally well drawn and the setting is simply wonderful - almost a Victorian Diagon Alley! There are also some great nods to the history of London that I loved. In all I thoroughly enjoyed it and it is certainly a new series that I will be recommending to any children searching for something to move onto from Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Thanks to my two Grade 6s!

This book was recommended to me because it is similar to Harry Potter. I find it hard to choose a book that I will really get into and enjoy, but I absolutely adored this book! The main reasons I loved this book were: 1) It was really magical, like when Ivy and Seb first found out about uncommon objects, and used a belt to fly with! 2) Ivy and Seb found out how much they needed each other, stopped arguing and worked together as a team. Like when Seb fought off the wraithmoths with his drumsticks because they were attacking Ivy. 3) One of my favourite parts was when Grandma Silvie came back into the uncommon world and saw her home after years of forgetting it! This was one of happiest and most moving parts of the book.

My favourite character is Ivy as I love how brave, calm and caring she is. She showed this when she was willing to risk her own life to save her parents. She is a very lovable and inspiring person.

I would recommend this to older children who love Harry Potter as it was very similar to this amazing book. It is quite scary, especially when objects move on their own and you find out how they really do this and what is controlling them. Don't read it at night if you are easily frightened (because my mum was when I read it to her!)

A wonderful read full of mystery and adventure. I loved the relationship between Ivy and Seb. The different approach to every day objects was fascinating and very creative. I would certainly recommend.

This was a good book as it was all about discovering their family secret.

Ivy and Seb Sparrow have a family secret that they dont know about. But what secret writing appears on their grandmas wall just after she fainted, what will they discover? Ivys a whisperer. That means she can feel when an uncommon object is around. They meet a boy called Valian. It was so good.

This book was one of the best I’ve ever read, I really enjoyed it and thought it was a brilliant take on magical objects my favourite character in this book is Scratch the bell because he is so funny and I really like the way he talks backwards I think he plays quite a big part in the book as he is in a lot of the big scenes with Ivy.

I thought this was a very good book! I found it was very well written and had an amazing plot. My two favourite characters were Ivy and Ethel. Ethel owned a funny bell shop and Ivy is one of the main characters, trying to hunt down a kidnapping association! I would recommend this book to people who love detective books and spine-tinglers!!

This is a good book. It is about an underground world of magic that is separated from the common world. Suitable for 8 or 9 year olds, boys and girls. Not as good as Harry Potter. It is an action book.
