This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart…

I absolutely love this read! I'm on the second book and I'm hooked in by the lovers to enemies story line!

Intriguing, captivating, complicated.

Right from the start, I knew I’d enjoy this book. The style was fresh, interesting, and I instantly liked the characters. The plot was rather typical at points, and felt predictable, but it was still intriguing and compelling. I felt fascinated by the division, and of course, the greater power.

I was disappointed by the Romance. I wouldn’t say it was a love triangle- the slight romantic hints felt forced and uncharacteristic. I was secretly rooting for Maven and Mare, but as the story began to develop into a corruption catastrophe, it became apparent that nobody was as they seemed.

The ending didn’t do the book justice. It felt like the only purpose of the ending was to continue the series; the plan for a sequel, I presume. There’s 4 books ( as far as I’m aware), so that’ll keep me busy.

Overall, it was interesting. Loved the concept- it was as if The Hunger Games and The Princess Trials had a baby and all the other dystopian elements as crazy aunties! 4 stars.

Mare, as a person living in a dystopian and unfair society, is presented as a very realistically
where you can't trust anyone and must be weary of everything around you. She is a character that is suspicious if everything around her but as the story goes on she only becomes increasingly skeptical and questions everything and everyone.

This dystopian novel was absolutely amazing. I like reading books because they distract from my problems and show me how big someone else's problems can be. In this book, Mare's (the main protagonist) was turned upside down. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10 as it might be a little too mature for people under this age.

A re-read of a strong debut from Victoria Aveyard. Mare is a strong female character who often comes to the rescue of the men in her life.
Royals with powers, a Hunger Games-esque secret district, plot twists galore - whats not to love!

I really liked the book. I liked Mare the best because of her sassiness and her determination to save everyone she loves. I would definitely recommend the book.

Possibly one of my favourite books ever! I absolutely loved this book, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Red Queen is a dystopian fantasy set in a world where people either have red or silver blood. Those with silver blood are the rulers, and have magical abilities that give them power over reds. Mare Barrow is a red, yet somehow she also has abilities. My favourite character is Maven, a silver prince. I would recommend this book to people who like The Hunger Games, The Darkest Minds, and other books like that, and are 12 or over.

One of the best books I have read, a dystopian novel set in a world where the colour of your blood means everything. When Mare Barrow a poor red blood is forced in the world of Silver royalty her life is changed forever.

This book was AMAZING. I love dystopians, so this was perfect for me. It's a mix of The Hunger Games, Divergent, Noughts and Crosses, Graceling and The Selection, all of which I love! I'd recommend it for age 13+, due to some of the content
