Puffin Classics: the definitive collection of timeless stories, for every child.
’Don’t move!’ said a voice, and the voice, like the eye, was enormous but somehow, hushed – and hoarse like a surge of wind through the grating on a stormy night in March. Arrietty froze. ‘So this is it,’ she thought, ’the worst and most terrible thing of all: I have been ""seen""!
The Borrowers live in the secret places of quiet old houses; behind the mantelpiece, inside the harpsichord, under the kitchen clock. They own nothing, borrow everything, and never forget their most important rule: you must never, ever be ‘seen’ by the human beans.Arrietty is desperate to be an expert Borrower like her father, Pod. But it’s dangerous work, and girls are forbidden to venture Upstairs. Arrietty is thrilled to be given a chance to prove herself – but disaster strikes on her very first outing: she is seen by The Boy! But to everyone’s surprise, a wonderful, unlikely friendship is formed. But soon the Borrowers find themselves in terrible danger, and only The Boy can help.
Full of wonderfully inventive details and beautiful, gentle humour, The Borrowers is a timeless tale of bravery, friendship and borrowing . . .
""Beautifully written, poetic and almost always alarming, the Borrowers have something very mysterious, sad and exciting about them"" – Sunday Times

I think it was very nice of the boy to give the borrowers gifts like chairs and other small stuff there size. I think Il like the boy the best because he did kind things for the borrowers and I would recommend this to someone who likes fantasies.
Considered a classic of children's literature and deservedly so! This is the story of Pod, Homily and Arriety who live under the floorboards of an old English country house and 'borrow' items from the 'human beans' to furnish their life and to survive. This survival is threatened however when they are spotted by a young boy who is staying at the house. A hugely enjoyable story with a clever twist right at the end.
I liked the boy taking the letters to the badger set.
I really enjoyed it. I liked arrietty, coz she was adventurous
I do book club and were learning about the book
I liked Arriety
This was a fiction book about 3 tiny people called Arrietty, Homily and Pod. They are called Borrowers. They Borrow things from the 'human beans', until one day Arrietty is 'seen' by 'the boy upstairs'.
This book was good and fun to read.
This book is amazing! My favourite character is Arietty because she is kind, brave and adventurous. Iwould definitely recommend this classical book.
I liked this book because it made me wonder if there were really tiny humans living under the floor boards.
My favourite character is Arrietty because she is brave, curious and adventurous, a lot like me.
Yes, because it is a very interesting story and it is very well written.
Very long and interesting
I found this book difficult to get into and I really didn’t like the ending - it left me feeling disappointed.
I loved this book. It all started when Arrietty went borrowing with pod and a little boy (George) saw her! Then Arrietty asked The boy to deliver a letter to her uncle hendreaey. But then the boy found the borrowers house ! At first it was ok as the boy gave then old dollhouse furniture for there house but then Mrs Driver saw the borrowers and completely freaked out because she thought that they were all mice dressed up!!!! And so the borrowers had to leave there house to go and live in the Badgers set with the other borrowers. What happend to them then? Nobody knows! Until you read the next borrowers story at least!!
This is a tricky read with lots of vocabulary that we don’t use anymore in our modern times but the story is an enjoyable classic.
I didn't really enjoy this book. It was a fiction book. I wouldn't recommend it.

This book was good. The Borrowers were tiny people that lived under he floorboards and they come above the floorboards and borrow things. I liked this book.
This is really fun i love it im watching the movie aswell and its so much fun
This story is charming and a lot of fun too. Little people living in a big English house. Sadly they are discovered. I enjoy how the story is told.
I liked Pod because he does a lot of borrowing
It was breath taking and so exiting
I enjoyed all of it as the story was so engaging and you just wanted to read more.
The only bad bit was the ending where they kind of cut off the end of the story and it was a little bit annoying that they just had the story at the beginning then it went to predictions of what they might be doing.
i would definitely recommend this book, and my only bit of advice on what you should do when reading it is, even if the beginning doesn't start off well then carry on reading as it gets better.
Generally I liked this book but there were some bits I didnt like. I liked the things they used to borrow, although really they took them as they didn't give back as used for their home.
I didn’t find this very interesting. I would not recommend it to someone else
It was fun and I like what you used as there things because they are small e.g they used a bottle lid as a bowl.
I couldn't change it. Tiny People storys are the best.
