Little Manfred

It was good because it was a story and history at the same time!

I really enjoyed this book because I like where it’s set. My favourite part was when Manfred and Walter gave Grace the toy little Manfred.

This was really good.

I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend this book.

I liked it because a man meets the children on the beach. As you get into the story you realise he was a friend of their mum. He made a wooden dog for her when she was little they named it Little Manfred. Now they have a real dog which thy called Little Manfred.

The story is very well written and easy to read. I finished it quickly as wanted to know what happened next.
Don't want to give too much away, but the ending was very moving.

I enjoyed reading this but it wasn't my favourite Michael Morpurgo book.

It was a nice adventurous story that leads into a story that happened thirty years ago

This book is about what happened in the Second World War, and is very interesting.

It is a story about two people one called Manfred and one called Walter, they were German. They were in the German war. They made this big powerful ship but when the English people came their ship was crashed and the English people saved some of them. A boy called Marty pulled them aboard but they got sent to prison. They were sent to farms to do work and they cleared up the barbed wire on the beach. The farm girl and boy had a daughter called Grace and Manfred, Walter and Grace all became friends. Manfred and Walter made her a wooden dog, they kept it hidden waiting for the right time to give it to Grace. One day Manfred was blown up on the beach and Walter and Grace were very sad. They called the wooden dog Manfred to remember him. Walter was freed one day. Grace had two children called Charlie and Alex and they met Walter on the beach and talked about Walter's life. The children persuaded Walter to come back and meet Grace. They had a little shepherd dog called Little Manfred so when Walter came over, Grace invited him inside and Grace showed him Little Manfred and the wooden dog that was broken by her husband when he stepped on it. Little Manfred kept an eye on them. Walter fixed the wooden dog. Walter married Manfred's wife that he met before the war. He didn't want to replace Manfred so when Walter passed away, his daughter brought the wooden dog to the museum and the story was told. Charlie wished that Walter could see this moment.

I loved the way that the German and English people could make friends and how people could treat each other kindly.

I think this book is a great book to read for all ages and sometimes may be sad but excellent descriptive language to tell the story. Michael Morpurgo is a great author that both adults and children will enjoy.

A sad story!

I liked this book because I like animals.

I liked this book but it was a little weird but it had lots of animals and happy endings.

I am interested in real peoples stories about the world war 2

It was really good

Personally, I think that this story was really heart-breaking, when Manfred-a character from this story- died. His family were left with his memories in Germany. I was astonished to see that this story was inspired by a true story.
My favourite character was Manfred; he supported his friend Walter all the time and was kind to everyone.

I really like this book and it was very sympathetic and heart-touching to read.

It was ok but could do with some more spicing up

In this book there is amazing language and use of words. I really liked the fact that in the story they told a story and that story was amazing. I would recommend this book to children aged over 5 years old. My favourite part was when they were telling story of how they made the toy dog.

5 out of 5! This is a lovely book with an incredibly heart aching storyline. It is very clever and once you read this book you will be gripped in instantly!

I love how Michael Morpurgo uses one name to make a whole story.

The book is about a girl and a boy who meet two old men which where there mums friends.

It tells a story of 2 children and their dog who meet two old men who tell their tale of their lifes and the children's mum. This is a brilliant short read for boys and girls age 8+
I would highly recommend this book

It is really sad but very dramatic

you should read this book if you like sad stories whith a happy ending.
