Introducing the Booker Prizes December Monthly Spotlight: Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

Claire Keegan’s tender tale of hope and quiet heroism is both a celebration of compassion and a stern rebuke of the sins committed in the name of religion.

Set in an Irish town, in December 1985, the book follows Bill Furlong, a coal and timber merchant, as he faces his busiest season. As he does the rounds, he feels the past rising up to meet him – and encounters the complicit silences of a small community controlled by the Church.

Now a widely acclaimed film starring Cillian Murphy, Small Things Like These delivers a personal and compassionate tale of the women of the Magdalene Laundries.

The Booker Prizes are offering a reading guide for Small Things Like These, an extract, an exclusive interview and a chance to win a Small Things Like These bundle. and a Booker Prize tote bag.
