Catching Fire is the second book in the Hunger Games series and is an excellent read - my favourite character was Haymitch. The main themes are survival, sacrifice and government control. It was released in 2009 and I would recommend it to children, teenagers and young adults who like dystopian fiction books.

not as good as the first but still good

I liked Katniss's costumes best, especially the wedding dress that turned into a mockingbird. I would definitely recommend it to other people.

13 Jul 2023

This is my favourite book in the hunger games series. It just seems less depressing than Mockingjay, but more interesting than the original hunger games.

I thought it was great but I preferred the first book. The ideas are creative and terrific but I find it less interesting somehow.

19 Jul 2022

Katniss is my favourite character. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading about the future and can cope with adventure and death.

Loved it, my favourite character was either Finnick, peeta or katniss. Would recommend to anyone my age or a tiny bit older

I thought Finnick (my favourite character) was very cool when he wielded his trident. Beetee was very clever when he set up the electric wire trap, planning to fry the force field while electrocuting the opponents.

This book is very gory and violent so I would recommend this book to 11 - 12 year olds.

This was just as epic as the first hunger games book! As it is the Quarter Quell this year, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark got entered into The Hunger Games again! Luckily they survived, and he others broke the rules as District 13 saved more than one person, making the Capitol look bad.

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I especially enjoyed Susanne Collins’ writing style and the constant cliffhangers. My favourite character was Katniss Everdeen for her faith in herself. I would recommend it to anyone who likes eventful books.

I didn’t like it as much as the first book, but it was alright.

Catching Fire is an excellent sequel to The Hunger Games, that takes us deeper into the aftermath of surviving the games and the torturous nightmares of such a disturbing place that make the terror unforgettable. After pulling the berries stunt that miraculously managed to keep both her and Peeta Mellark alive at the end of the Hunger Games Katniss now faces the threat of losing her loved ones when President Snow realizes that some people have taken Katniss's survival as an act of defiance, and a signal to rebel against the controlling Capitol.(A similar rebellion had already taken place before the events of the first book - it is also how the annual Hunger Games were established,to remind the rebels that they wouldn’t stand a chance against the Capitol) To keep her family and friends alive, Katniss must attempt to convince the entirety of Panem that her berries trick was purely out of an insatiable fear of losing Peeta, the love of her life, not as defiance against the Capitol.

However, with a disastrous plot twist and the horrors of the games still looming over her life, Katniss finds comfort in the only other person she knows understands her situation: Peeta. Throughout this book we see Katniss begin to appreciate Peeta as a person and more, rather than her supposed star-crossed lover. This is where Katniss and Peeta really become a major part of each other's lives with a mutual understanding of most things, and when Peeta becomes more and more important to Katniss.

We learn more about the other districts and previous victors in this book along with the hints of uprisings in these districts, the injustices of the Capitol and people's eagerness to fight back despite the fear. There is definitely more of a sense of unity among the victors of all people, and the feel of a pre-war spark and the sense of hope that follows these uprisings.

I would recommend this entire series to anyone and would give this book a ∞/5(infinity out of five).

This is a good book. There are a lot of different characters. It was very exciting - I wanted to keep finding out what was going to happen next.

This book shows that a girl can still survive whether she gets put back into the games

A great sequel with good returning characters and new twists to the plot of the books

This was a phenomenal book full of adventure and adrenaline. This dystopian book is all about Katniss Everdeen. She tries to forget the hunger games, a bloodthirsty tv show where all the districts fight to the death, and there is only ONE WINNER. But it isn't over. She must return to the arena for the Quarter Quell, which occurs every 25 years. They choose the contestants from the existing pool of victors. But in the real world, there is an uprising, and she, the Mockingjay, is the face of the rebellion to defeat the Capitol. My favourite character is Katniss, since she is a strong female character that is ready to fight, and is such an inspiration. I would recommend this to someone who likes wars, adrenaline, dystopia and fear.

Catching Fire is a brilliant book about Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark having survived the Hunger Games and going on their victory tour. However, uprisings are beginning in the districts, against the Capitol, and Katniss is thought to be the root of them. Even though people have died because of this rebellion, Katniss wants to run away rather than fight for what is right. Through everything Katniss has been through, the Capitol still want revenge by bending the rules and putting Katniss and Peeta back in the arena. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to people who have already read the Hunger Games. However, the book is a little hard to read as the language isn't as clear.

26 Aug 2020

Even better than its prequel! An exciting, twist-riddled dystopian that follows a rebellious Katniss Everdeen on a daring journey to escape from the Capitol's grip of tyranny. With an all-new, unique arena to face and unexpected contestants, this is a nail-biting thriller all the way through and the perfect choice for those who love fast-paced, grim action novels.

24 Aug 2020

I really enjoyed this book. This is because it was very adventurous and the author really described the time in the arena very well

13 Aug 2020

Okay...where to start? I would have never guessed that any book could be as good as the first book in the series, but I was wrong.

31 Jul 2020

I thought this book is better than the first one because their are more characters and there is lying.

In this book I like Katniss because she is the Mockingjay and is suppose to be pregnant but she is not because it is all a very big fib.

I recommend this book to my best mate because it is right up his street!

28 Jul 2020

Katniss Eveerdeen is back to compete the 75th and the 3rd quarter quell of the Hunger Games. But this one is a bit different as she and her previous partner,Peeta Mellark are facing the previous victors.

She and her partner survived.

The game did not finish as there were few or more tribute surviving. That's because when Katniss hit the weakest force of the arena and it blasted in the air.

09 Jul 2020

I liked Catching Fire because the 75th Hunger Games was very eventful and exciting, plus, The arena was pretty cool this time. I liked the clock features the best and how every hour there is a different obstacle.

25 Jun 2020

This book was amazing and full of surprises. The title is mysterious as is the whole front cover. The blurb was tremendous and the stories was all round perfect
