Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite – and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.
As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.

This book has been very enjoyable to me. I love all of the adventure and action of seeing magic through a different perspective.
This was an amazing book about romance and magical story . My favourite character was Mat because he so courageous and brave and he is kind.It wasn’t really factual and why did it intrested me well because it was about an orphan who just became as powerful as the darkling . I would recommend this to 9 to 14 years old
From the very beginning I was captivated by the look of the book. It was so gorgeous and when I picked it up, i couldn't put it down. One of my favorite character is Nikolai because he is a very interesting character to look into. I would recommend this for anyone who likes fantasy and a bit of mythology.
This book had been recommended to me by many young readers at St Mary's. I wish I had read it sooner! It's a fabulous, gripping fantasy story. Leigh Bardugo has created a universe with such detail and richness of culture and character, that the reader gets carried away. I read it in two days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic!
I really liked the character Alina and loved the genral theme of the book, and the adventurous and magical book. I would highley recommend it for slighty older reader, e.g 11-12.
This book is such an amazing story. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were so well written and the Grishaverse is escapism in it’s finest. I can’t wait to read the other books in this trilogy.
The book reads really well.
Alina Starkov is the reluctant hero that can sve the world
This is a fiction book that I would recommend to people who enjoy Harry Potter. It is one of the best books I have ever read. My only criticism is that it is too short!
This is one of the best books I have ever read - I finished it in one day! It is a fiction book and I would recommend it to readers who like magic content. My only criticism is that the book is too short.
I really enjoyed this book, the Grishaverse that Leigh Bardugo has created is very unique! The main character Alina struggles with many of the generic ideas that a female protagonist might. Her character was likeable and I enjoyed her more as she became more confident in herself! I loved this introduction to the series and am even more excited to read more into this universe.
Shadow and bone followed a girl called Alina who found out she was a sun summoner and could help her country be free of something called the fold which was a big dark wall basically separating the country. She was sent off the the little palace where the grisha, people who could summon different elements, learned how to control their power. Not going to say anything more for that would be spoiling! I would recommend this book as it created a whole new land and really enticed me as a reader.
I enjoyed the fantasy nature of this book. The characters were well developed and interesting
Engaging plot and creative and convincing world-building. Speaks to themes of morality, power and the corrupting nature of pursuing power even with just moral motivations. Finishes on a cliffhanger which leaves the reader wanting more.
Amazing YA book! A dark fantasy adventure that made me keep turning the pages. The author has created a spellbinding world that has an eastern european mythic feel to it. Great strong female characters and a gripping storyline. I highly recommend it. I can't wait to finish the series and then watch the netflix version.
this was a really good book, filled with unexpected twists and turns and for me it was an adventure!
i would really recommend this book to anyone age 11 and up, as it has some swearing and kissing in it. it was one of the best books i have ever read. i hope everyone else enjoys it as much as i did.
(If there was a 4.5 stars I would rate this book 4.5 because it is good but not quite 5 stars.)SO. MUCH. MAGIC. I love fantasy/magic novels and this is a REALLY good YA fantasy novel. Very similar to her other books, Leigh Bardugo describes everything so much you feel like you are in the moment. There is some gore and mild language which is why I would recommend this to a mature 11-12 year old. My favourite character is Genya because of her slightly sarcastic kindness.
The Best!!
