The Boy is uneasy because he knows that once the knowledge of his dragon friend’s existence gets out, St. George will be obliged to come along and slay him. But what can The Boy do when the dragon simply won’t fight St. George?

It was kind of st. George to pretend to fight. I was sad when the dragon got hurt for real. But it did have a happy ending.
Sometimes it was hard to read with the olden days language.
What I liked most was that, although the dragon had said he wasn't going to sing, at the end after the banquet when they'd all become friends, he sang on the way home.
I found this really amusing as the dragon was not your typical, fire breathing, knight fighting beast.
I loved the development of the characters in this book, especially the dragon's. I enjoyed the plots the dragon, boy and knight thought of to solve all of their problems in a peaceful manner. I would love to have a friend like this dragon.
I would recommend this to chidlren and adults alike as it is heartwarming and funny.
I recomend this to Mrs Nixon as I think she would admire the dragon's reluctance to fight.
Someone who likes trickery and battles would like this book.
Written by the author of ‘Wind in the Willows’, but very different in style.
A dragon turns up on the South Downs one day and is befriended by Boy, a great reader, who knows all about dragons – but not one like this one. The dragon’s not interested in fighting – but then St George arrives.....
I enjoyed it, but it seems very dated and I’m not sure the 21st century child would cope with the style of writing
This book was very adventurous and the characters had a lot to chat about. The dragon was very reluctant (as it says in the title) because he didn't want to fight. The boy loved to read and whenever
they met in the cave they shared poetry. my favourite character was Sr George because he was generous and didn't actually kill the dragon.
Too wordy and a bit boring for me.
Mummy read this to me because the language and way it was written was quite tricky to understand when I read it to myself, but I loved it when Mummy read it to me.
I was happy that the dragon made friends with the villagers at the end.
This book was about a kind dragon who didn't want to fight. I enjoyed this story. My favourite character is the dragon because he was kind and unusual for a dragon. I would recommend this book to my sister, I think she would really enjoy reading it.
This book was sometimes good and sometimes bad.
My favourite part about this book was when the boy and the dragon made friends.
