An annual summer read for me when I was young. I was disappointed that my mum had given it away when I left home. I was so pleased when I found a secondhand copy and have continued to read it every summer holidays. The book is of it’s time; confident, nosey children uncover a mystery involving a newly-arrived boy who lives next door. Typical Blytonesque story.

I liked that we found out in the book that the boy’s father was actually alive and ok. I didn’t like that the bad person was trying to get money in order to give away the child.
