Stanley Yelnats’ family has a history of bad luck going back generations, so he is not too surprised when a miscarriage of justice sends him to Camp Green Lake Juvenile Detention Centre. Nor is he very surprised when he is told that his daily labour at the camp is to dig a hole, five foot wide by five foot deep, and report anything that he finds in that hole. The warden claims that it is character building, but this is a lie and Stanley must dig up the truth. In this wonderfully inventive, compelling novel that is both serious and funny, Louis Sachar has created a masterpiece that will leave all readers amazed and delighted by the author’s narrative flair and brilliantly handled plot.

Gripping tale of intrigue and mystery
This is a great book, and I would recommend this to my friends. My teacher also read this as class story to us and I loved it! I hope lots of other people do to.
The lizards seem a bit scary!

This is a great book for reluctant readers, especially boys. It also needs a teacher to read aloud with character animation - this then makes it truly gripping, what with its many twists , turns and plot twists.
There are so many reading and writing assessments that can be done with this book and perfect for the summer term - for if it's hot then they may be able to relate to the relentless heat the characters endure.
This would appeal to students who always seem to be 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'!
I didn't really understand it...
i realy like all the links with the song and zero
I thought it was one of the best books I have ever read, with twists and turns around every corner. I was especially interested in who's mysterious suitcase it was (but no spoilers!).

Unfortunately, we don't have this book on our school reading spine as they read it at our linked high school in Year 7. However, I had heard so much about this book, that I wanted to read it. The hype did not disappoint. I devoured this book in a day.
It was an amazing book that would make me always want to read more!
Great storyline
My favourite character was Zero because he ran away
Loved this book and I know my class will really enjoy the read in the Autumn term.
It appeals to upper primary students with a mix of outstanding characters, the dialogue and the continuing threat throughout the book. Loved it
This book was a fiction and the reason I liked this book was because it was about friendship and they had their back for each other. I would recommend this book
