Oliver grew up in a family of explorers – but his biggest adventure is about to begin!
Along with his new friends, a grumpy old albatross, a short-sighted mermaid and a friendly island called Cliff, Oliver goes off in search of his missing parents. But before he can put his rescue plan into action there’s the evil Stacey de Lacey and an army of pesky sea monkeys to contend with . . . EEP!
Award-winning dynamic duo, Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre, have created a book bursting with eccentric characters and stunning two colour illustrations. This book has been shortlisted for the 2014 Blue Peter Book Awards, in the Best Story category.
‘A delightfully told, beautiful tale of nautical hairdressing, saltwater primates and sarcastic seaweed – this is my kind of book!’ Chris Riddell TweetReviews

I’m only on chapter 2 but as I’ve read so far I’m going to enjoy this book I would recommend it for confident young readers because it’s very engaging
I like this book because it has so many sea adventures. In one of the sea adventures,Oliver finds a seawig that is alive and a blind mermaid .I also like the part when Oliver saved all the seawigs from the therlstone and I like the bit where Oliver tickled the therlstone. I also like the part where Oliver, the mermaid (Iris) and Cliff (the seawig) found the water mole (submerine).
This is a lovely story that a boy and girl would enjoy. All about life at sea and friendships formed. A great read

I thought it is a book on how Oliver went on a sea adventure and he discovered about taking mermaids and birds and moving and talking isles. This is fiction book and my favorite character is Oliver. I would recommend it to people who like adventure, chapters and picture books.
My Y4s chose this as their first class read of the year and adored it! It is hilarious, engaging and very well written!
In the tradition of Roald Dahl, Oliver's hapless parents need to be saved from themselves and luckily Oliver and his new found friends are there to help. Their adventures take them on a journey of discovery through an imaginary sea filled with grumpy isles, mad monkeys and the odd diva.
This is absolute proof that funny books for children need not be badly written! Our head teacher covered a few sessions in my classroom and loved reading this to the children! We have had to fill her in on the bits she missed.
I liked the characters.
