I really liked this book. It is the story of five different women in war torn Kabul. I loved the friendships and love stories at the heart of this book. However, I was shocked/appalled by the atrocious way in which women are treated in Afghanistan. This is a modern day Human Rights issue.I would thoroughly recommend this book to others. One reviewer of this book said ' it was like Maeve Binchey writing the Kite Runner'. I agree but the softer approach of Deborah Rodriguez, who lived in Kabul herself for a period of time, did not dilute for me the horrors of trying to live day to day war torn Kabul and reinforced that in particularly difficult times it is love and friendship which are important.
