Felix has a problem. It’s a big, red, round problem. A worry balloon that follows him everywhere he goes … As his heart thumps, stomach twists and toes wiggle, it grows and grows and stops him from doing what he wants to do. But when Felix learns a special trick, things start to change …

Excellent picture book to use in Early Years particularly at the beginning of the school year when children maybe anxious about their first few days. The main character Felix is gently guided and reassured by his father . He learns that everyone has worries but with the support of his father he learns a special breathing strategy to help with those anxious moments. It is not long before he is able to pass this on to one of his peers whom he notices sitting on the edge all alone looking worried . Actually used this story recently with a class of 4&5 year olds and whilst it was the end of our current school year the children loved the story and loved seeing Felix’s balloon ( his worry) shrink in size until it had disappeared when he successfully used the strategy his father taught him. Would thoroughly recommend adding this book to any Early Years library.
