What a wonderful story teller Ann Patchett is. Tom Lake is a quiet, gentle, warm and kind book in which a middle aged woman tells her three adult daughters the story of a past romance she had with a now famous actor. It's a tiny bit schmaltzy but the telling of it is done so well that it doesn't seem to matter. I just basked in its warm glow and enjoyed it.
