I read this hard on the heels of having watched (and enjoyed) The Marlow Murder Club series on TV. I've never read anything by Robert Thorogood before but I'll be looking out for more of his books now. This story concerns the death of the popular Mayor of Marlow. He dies by poison during a Town Council meeting and no-one can understand (a) how someone managed to put the poison in his coffee cup or (b) why anyone would want him dead. The three ladies of the Murder Club are immediately brought in by the police as Civilian Advisers to help with the investigation. It's a twisty plot which is easy and fun to read. Perfect escapism.
