“Every page has to grip them, make
them laugh, be interesting because they can drop it. There are
screens everywhere that they can pick up. That’s part of
the reason why I started writing books because I had such fun as
a kid reading books. I always had my head in a book. I wanted to
write books that were unputdownable for children, that were full
of adventure and crazy big characters and made them laugh.”

This story is about a boy called Harry Sponge whose family is bullied and are really poor. One day, there's a contest to see which child could become king or queen and an envelope reaches him. He opens it, and finds out that he is invited to the tournament and eventually becomes king.
My favourite character is Harry Sponge. I definitely recommend this for 8-9 year olds.

Having read 'The Fart That Changed The World', I was interested in reading Stephen Mangan's next book. I read the book to my year 3 class and they all loved the silly names and antics of the characters. Therefore, I had high hopes for this story and wasn't disappointed. The thing I most loved about this story, which I suppose is a development from the last book, is the ridiculously silly names and toilet humour. At times the events in the story are quite surreal and remind me of some of my favourite comedy programmes. I will definitely be reading this to my class in September.
