Twitch has three pet chickens, four pigeons, swallows nesting in his bedroom and a passion for birdwatching. On the first day of the summer holidays, he arrives at his secret hide to find police everywhere: a convicted robber has broken out of prison and is hiding in Aves Wood. Can Twitch use his talents for birdwatching to hunt for the dangerous prisoner and find the missing loot?

I would recommend this to kids 9-13 it is one of the best books I have read. I is exhilarating and mysterious, a real page turner. Could not stop reading it!
Lovely read dealing with friendship alongside a mystery and adventure. Great links to birds and birdwatching. Moves at a fast pace but with enough detail that you love the characters.
Good
It was a very interesting read. My favourite part is when Twitch found out that Billy was not who he said he was.
Twitch is a lonely, mega birdwatcher. He has two pigeons and three chickens living in his house. When an escaped convict is rumoured to be hiding in Aves Woods, he jumps into action and tries to solve the case before things get out of hand.
I loved this book. It has made me want to go birdwatching and I loved trying to work out the mystery!
This book has it all - bullying, friendship, an unlikely hero and plenty of suspense and intrigue.
Couldn't put it down!
I really liked this book because it contains on of my best interests, bird watching. It was also full of drama. I really liked Twitch the most as he was the birdwatcher, and I felt sorry for him when Jack betrayed him. I would recommend this book to fellow birdwatchers.
wonderful and tense
There was a boy who is a birdwatcher and made his own bird hide but there was an escaped criminal loose in his village.
I love birds and love mystery stories so this was a perfect read for me! Fast-paced, full of ornithological references that cleverly weave with themes of trust, friendship and caring for the natural world. Look forward to the publication of the sequel!
This book is amazing it’s a cross between fiction and nonfiction and you learn a lot about birds and it’s not even boring I would definitely recommend this book
What a great book! Adventure, nature, conservation birdwatching and kids taking charge. I loved the characters and I couldn't put it down. I cant wait to read it aloud to a class.
I thought that it was a very adventurous story with loads of unexpected twists.
Super book! Great story.
Great read really enjoyed it lots of tense moments and twists. It was really hard to predict and a great mystery.
Really enjoyed the book, massive thrills.
High in mystery, compassion, team work and great for Twitchers and Birders
I didn't like it.
This book is a fiction, mystery, adventure book. Twitch is the main character, who loves birds, but he only has a mum. He has three pet chickens, four pigeons, swallows living in his bedroom but a dangerous criminal is on the loose and their are millions of pounds missing . But many more things happen in this story
Interesting book.
I LOVED this book! My favourite character is Gwen as I love how brave she is and how well she handles trouble in any situation. I would recommend this book to my best friend.
Another delight from M G Leonard. Her ability to write about boys with a range of interests sets her apart as an author.
Highly recommended.
Very good book. I just couldn't stop reading it and there were so many cliff-hangers.
My favourite character was Twitch (or Corvus).
Another MGLeonard suspense filled mystery that'll captivate kids from 7 and up.
I shared this with a group of 7/8/9yr olds and without fail they groaned when reading time was up and they had to wait till the following day for the next installment.
I absolutely loved this book! It had a very unexpected twist which I’ll not spoil. I really loved twitch and his love for birds and his talent to build hidden forts in aves wood, his favourite bird watching place. I really enjoyed it and would 100% recommend it.
This was recommended to me by a fellow reading fan (10 yrs old) and my own son (12 yrs old) - and they are both right it is a really enjoyable book to read. Some lovely characters like Amita the neighbour who is so kind and fun and Jack who becomes a true friend though starts out as a bully himself.
I loved this beautifully written and gentle tale of a birdwatcher come detective.
Nature tips, a well crafted mystery and another fantastic piece of writing by MG Leonard
Enjoy!
Another fantastic tale by Leonard. I can never put her books down and Twitch is no exception. The friendships that are established in this story are wonderful and the plot twists and turns keeping you guessing all the way through!
