a touching story of hearts clashing bonds growing and trust beyond compare and girl+bear.
A beautiful story of a girl and a bear!
With emotional moments and a mystery to solve, this has probably been one of my favourite books so far and is so inspiring. It’s up there on my list, and I cannot wait to read the next in the series, and I’m thinking about doing it for world book day. This is a shout out to pollution, and how we can save the planet!
Thoroughly enjoyed this read. What a wonderful fantasy, the relationship between Bear and April was gorgeous. Her feelings about her father and mother woven through and also of the boy who'd been on the boat. All kept me wanting more and can't wait for the sequel!
Amazing from start to finish.. would recommend to anyone and everyone
I'd seen this book recommended a lot in various reading groups so bought it during the holiday. I absolutely loved it from start to finish, having to stay in bed until 11.30 am to finish it on the third day of reading it. The complex relationship between April and her Dad was unravelled so well, the description so vivid and the building of the friendship between girl and polar bear was very moving indeed. Get the tissues ready for the last section. I was a blubbing wreck. Thoroughly recommend this book.
This book definitely had creativity and now I definitely want to save
the animals!
I wanted to read this as I love polar bears - I was attracted by the cover. It is a really good story.
April, because she really believes that bears are still alive. Her Dad told her there are none left, until she sees one out of the window
The story is really powerful because it shows how April tries everything she can to save the bear, even when nobody else believes in her. I liked April because she’s brave, determined, and doesn’t give up, even when things get really tough. She finds a way to communicate with the bear, and they form a special bond that feels very real.
I gave this book 5 stars because it is written beautifully and it has told me how to care more about animals so I recommend you read this book so that it can inspire you like it inspired me.
Very good words, Great cliffhangers and suspense, good story. Very emotional. 5 stars
amazing
Amazing
A very heartwarming story that deals with bereavement and loss in a sensitive way. It also highlights the importance of climate change and how we all need to adapt our lives.
Unfortunately this book is not as marvellous as other titles by this author and I personally was rather disappointed. However this book was quite good and merits its three stars. The story line is imaginative but it is my opinion that the author took many chapters to transmit simple points. However I enjoyed the wonderful descriptions and similes which are scattered throughout the book and many of which are really very touching.
This book was full of emotions, action and deep characters. It was descriptive and the way the book was written is wonderful. It was about a young girl who wanted to spend time with her farther when they went to the arctic circle. While there, the girl befriended the last polar bear on the island. At the end, she has to say goodbye to Bear (she called him that) once she returned him to his home.
Definitely a recommended read to a child or adult. I found that dad's character sad as he has gone through a traumatic time yet also endearing as he clearly shows his love for his daughter in the end.
The girl is so brave when she approaches the bear and at the same time, she knew she could help him. A silly decision to go off in the boat however. A lovely ending to know the bear is safe but sad as the girl had made such a bond with him. It brought a tear to my eye.
Love the characters, love how the child helps the bear find his way.
I really liked this book because it was very exciting and thrilling. I would recommend this book to someone who likes bears and any animals in the sea
This was such an amazing book, it almost made me cry. The main character, April, finds herself a bit lonely with a busy father and no friends. Despite her little size, she is determined to make a noise and raise awareness of climate change. Because of her father’s work, they move temporarily to Bear Island, which is a real island just outside of the Arctic Circle. There are said to be no polar bears left due to the melting ice caps on this island, but April does not believe it. She finds the last polar bears and builds an unlikely bond that leads her to send him to his true home, and finally says goodbye. Definitely read this, you will love it whoever you are.
I love this book. It was actually one of my friends that recommended it to me. I think Bear is really clever and sometimes I wish I could hug him just like April. I really recommend it to anyone else who loves animals.

my FAVRITE book!!!
It was a really good book and loved it. It’s one of those books we’re you get stuck in and forget about what’s going on around you ( being like in your own world)it is about this girl who hand to move to bear island and met the last bear on there. She made friends with the bear and I feel very relatable to her too.
A really great story. We really liked the relationship between Bear and April as well as the message about global warming that was intertwined into the story.
It was so sad at the end when April left Bear.
