‘I know exactly what you mean.’
Six simple words, and suddenly Sam doesn’t feel so alone.
A heart-warming series about friendship, compassion and finding your kindred spirits.
This is the story of one of those days – a day so bad you can barely get out of bed, when it’s a struggle to leave the house, and when you do, you wish you hadn’t. But even the worst of days can surprise you. When one sad ghost, alone at a crowded party, spies another sad ghost across the room, they decide to leave together. What happens next changes everything.
Because that night they start the The Sad Ghost Club – a secret society for the anxious and alone, a club for people who think they don’t belong.
Stunningly illustrated, this is Volume 1 in the beloved graphic novel series perfect for fans of Heartstopper and for anyone who’s ever felt invisible.

A really short comic book about mental health and finding your people. I wasn’t expecting this as I got it confused with Sheets by Brenna Thummler! I really enjoyed it though and the helpful inclusion of groups to contact when you’re feeling isolated is particularly well-considered. This could be the book that really helps a young person who is feeling lost and alone but it’s not a heavy or preachy story, just an honest one.
So sad
I loved the pear of going to the party or not and when they became friends I just hope they become friends with the other ghosts
I would recommend this. It is a good book for people that struggle with depression or social anxiety etc.
I would recommend this book because the characters of the ghosts were really good. The ghosts were better than real people.
Lize does an incredible job at spreading positive awareness of how differently mental health affects us all.
"What if they're like me and they think no one is like them?"
Very excited to read the second and third comics!
This book opens up some really significant spaces for conversation. It reminded me of conversations I have had with young people in and outside of school and I can see it being a powerful way of encouraging dialogue, possibly through storyboarding extra scenes. I shall be looking for the next books on the series!
Loved this graphic novel about loneliness and social anxiety so much I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Multiple large pictures on each page means you can get through this tale in 2 hours. Will give confidence to struggling students.
I would give this comic book 5 stars because the book teaches us lessons that can be applied day to day routines, such as being nice towards others as we may not be aware of the emotions of others and if they are feeling sad.
A great book to spread awareness for the importance of mental health. A heart warming story, fabulous illustrations. I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to any comic loving readers out there!!!
Ghost club is my favourite book, I keep re-reading it!
Simple but very effective illustration. Gentle and thoughtful story.
Nominated for Bristol Teen Book Awards 2023

We all feel part of The Sad Ghost Club at some time in our lives and this book definitely helps to overcome it. I love the character, hidden under a sheet. How often do we all feel like hiding away and becoming invisible. How do you make relationships when you struggle just to get out of bed and show up? The answer - join a club for people who aren't members of any other clubs! This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel about anxiety and friendships. I recommend this book to pupils in late primary/early secondary up. Now a successful series with a Twitter and Instagram account
My favourite character was SG. The book made me feel a tiny bit sad at first because SG was lonely, then he met someone called Socks and they became friends. The book me think about how other people might feel who don't have a lot of friends.
I loved this book. I don't normally read graphic novels so it was a very different experience for me but one I was intrigued by this book and wanted to know what it was all about.
I was not disappointed. It did not shy away from dealing with anxiety and soon you are caught up with not 1 but 2 ghosts who learn a lot from spending time talking and more importantly listening to each other about their issues and insecurities.
I would recommend this book, the illustrations are fantastic and compliment the story line perfectly and at times relying solely on the images to carry the story forward.
Beautifully illustrated graphic novel that portrays anxiety/mental health in a relatable way. It was a quick read but at the same time a reminder that you are not alone, there is nothing wrong with not being okay, and that it's okay to ask for help when you need it. I really enjoyed the story and found it a relaxing and calming read. It was recommended to me by a student and I will be recommending it to others.
