I have waited close on 50 years to read this! It was first published when I was teenager and I always wanted to read it and was finally given a second-hand copy (it's out of print) as a birthday present. Well worth the wait! Selznick, the perfectionist film producer who grew up with the film industry at the same time it was developing in the early 20th century was an individualist. Although he worked as an executive for a number of the large studios, RKO, Paramount and MGM, a powerhouse like him needed his own studio which he started in 1935. His greatest achievement was the legendary Gone With The Wind and this book, a compilation of the countless memos he wrote, gives an insight into Hollywood in its golden age. Unlike most studio heads, Selznick was educated and a lover of classic literature and this shows in his writing.
