Poems for life chosen and illustrated by the inimitable Chris Riddell, An eclectic selection including some songs. A young reader who loves to draw would appreciate this. For me the illustrations helped with accessing the content. It reinforces that literacy is all pervasive. Imagine an art lesson illustrating a poem ...

My favourite poem is the Jabberwocky, I can recite it by heart.

I loved this book! A great compilation of poems - some comfortingly old and familiar and some fresh and new. Loved the illustrations and the way in which they enhanced the words. Fab!

Not suitable for primary age! Chosen because it was recommended for children and poems are chosen by a previous children's poet Laureat. Some interesting poems within the anthology that could be used in class (y6 maybe) but some definitely not suitable - graphic war poems, and one about a child who melted the handles of scissors and then passed them to another child to burn them! Lovely illustrations for those which are primary appropriate.
