Kisses on a postcard. Terence Frisby.
Opinions were divided about this book – some readers found it endearing and 'friendly'; others were put off by the aspect of it, or did not much like the writing style. Some thought that it described the atmosphere and conditions of the war very well, and found the area around Liskeard easy to visualise.
Discussion ranged over several points from the book: the issue of black GI's in Britain during the war; the conditions in the village of Doublebois at the time; the characters of the family who took in the evacuees; and the bombing of Plymouth, very realistically described in the book.
We talked about the way the author adapted what was essentially a memoir, into a readable story, via his skills as a playwright.
