Slough House is a dumping ground for members of the intelligence service who’ve screwed up. They’re the service’s poor relations – the slow horses – and bitterest among them is River Cartwright. But when a young man is abducted, and it’s threatened that he’ll be beheaded live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

I read quite a lot of ‘spy type’ novels, they usually fit into one of two categories, all action like 007, and grey dismal (le Carre): Slow Horses fits in the middle. Easier to understand than most, has a good story line with plausible and believable people and I am glad that they came out ok(ish). Will read more from Mick Herron.
