I read it at school and I thought it was great. Being the speedy reader I am I skipped ahead whilst the teacher was reading it out loud and I finished it in about a week! It was a mystery full of twists and everything tied together by the final page. I don't want to give away the ending but it was really good and I would recommend it to fans of the Murder Most Unladylike series and Lions and Liars.
I read this book as a child but re- read it as an adult and I really love the message of perseverance and friendship that goes through the story.
This seems to be a super popular book with my pupils, but it just wasn't my cup of tea! I think it would be better read as a whole class, with a treat to watch the movie together afterwards.
Futility, obsession and exploitation. Self belief and family. Wide ranging emotional ride.
It’s about an innocent kid and it surprised me.
This book was fantastic. It was about a boy called stanley yelnats IV as all his family named their children stanley is it was yelnats backwards. Stanley got sent to camp grean lake as he was accused of stealing clyde Livington's shoes. I recommend this book totally 100%!
It was really good and exciting and I would recommend it to people who like adventurous books.
Nice story, liked the friendships.
Louis Sachsen is a good author.
Stanley Yelnats wasn’t supposed to go there in the first place.
I love this book and I’ll recommend it to someone else.
The author was so good I loved the film as well
The author was so good I loved the film as well
A lovely story of friendship, morals and a peek into the punishment system.
I really liked it. I liked the ending and it was very funny the twists and turns.
The person who runs the place is looking for a suitcase underground and Stanley yelnats has to dig up the truth
This book was amazing,I liked Zero because he was a kind boy and this is the the best book I have read so far
Loved reading it- recommended to anyone aged 9 plus.
Amazing book ever! I really liked a character called Zero because he was a nice person and the book is great 10/10

This is a really interesting book, I would recommend everyone reads it
I love this book it’s a little bit sad but I do enjoy the story of Stanley and zero.
I really enjoyed reading this book because of the main characters: Stanley Yelnats, Hector Zeroni, Kissing Kate Barlow and Sam. I loved how the story developed and slowly revealed information about the different characters and how their lives entwined.
I enjoyed reading this after watching the film
So good, it was a fiction book, I like Stanley and zero (Hector zeroni) yes I would recommend it
A sinister plot...
Poignant book which can be read on many levels. Easy to access for the younger reader and with relatable characters which readers can identify with.
The story of Stanley, who has been misunderstood for not obeying a trivial law and dug holes to find the long-buried treasure of Kate Barlow, overcomes the hardships and survives, making the story more and more immersive.
Nice
"Holes" is such a cool book! It's about a boy named Stanley who has to dig holes as punishment, but then he finds out there's a mystery behind it. I learned that sometimes things are connected in unexpected ways. Stanley's adventures taught me that we should never give up, even when things are tough. I would totally recommend this book to my friends because it's funny, exciting, and has lots of surprises!!
I remember reading this book as a year 6 pupil and really enjoying it, and this time around I enjoyed it just as much, if not more. I think it has a perfect mix of adventure and mystery, whilst having great lessons about friendship as well as highlighting racism through the flashbacks of Sam and kissing Kate Barlow. It really keeps you wanting to read more in order to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and you end up feeling satisfied at the end as the past and present characters intertwine. It's a classic book that all aged 9+ should read.
I wasn't sure if I would like this book when I started reading it but it is a lot of fun. It is quite a long book so I recommend it to people who don't mind reading over a longer time. I like the characters in it - especially Hector.
