Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy

There is lots of repetition in this book which helps children to remember the characters and story. The rhyming makes it a good book for children to listen to and join in with. Reading it alongside some of the other Hairy Maclary books helps to build a connection with the characters. Children I've read it to always seem to laugh at the dogs being afraid of Scarface Claw the cat.

A dog goes on a walk and meets a bunch of other dogs. They meet a cat that attacks them, so they all run away.
My favourite character is Scarface Claw because I love cats.

This rhymes and is really good, my favourite dog is the biggest one

I liked it at the end because the cat came out and chased all the dogs home.

I liked it because Scarface claw scared the dogs at the end. I didn’t like it because they got chased by Scarface claw.

I like this story because it’s about dogs and some of them are funny

I love Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum! And I like to spot the cats eyes in the shadow!

I think it's good and I like the rhymes but I wish it were a bit longer and I want there to be a teeny bit more detail.

I like it when the cat chases the dogs.
