Reading Activists visit Capital Radio!

The young people, all members of their libraries’ new Hachette Digital Reading Groups, will create podcasts of their book discussions and what better place to learn all about the world of audio than from a radio station!

The young people met the station’s Breakfast Show producer James, who showed them how the meaning of a simple voice recording could instantly be changed to suggest different things when accompanied with different audio sound effects and music.

They were then split into two teams and tasked with creating an advert for chicken soup. They were given a brief that contained the key messages that had to be included in the ad and given free-reign with the station’s equipment.

The young people wrote scripts, recorded themselves speaking and then added music and sound effects to create two very different ads. They were both a great success and the Reading Activists quickly realised how simple it could be to create engaging and effective audio.

“It’s been really good fun, I’ve learned a lot.” Grace, Reading Activist, Warrington Library

“I can’t wait to get back to school to see what recording and editing equipment they have.” Rachel, Reading Activist, Warrington Library

The young people left the session keen to start reading their first book and to create their first reading group podcast!
