Penguin presents the ABRIDGED audiobook edition of The Borrowers by Mary Norton, read by Samantha Bond.

Pod, Homily and Arrietty are a family of tiny people who live beneath the floor, behind the grandfather clock in the old rectory. They own nothing – everything they have is borrowed from the ‘human beans’ who don’t even know they exist. Arrietty’s father, Pod, is an expert borrower. He can scale curtains using a hatpin and bring back a doll’s teacup without breaking it. Girl’s aren’t supposed to go borrowing, but as Arrietty is an only child, Pod breaks the rules. But when she is in the house borrowing, something happens which changes their lives. Arrietty makes friends with ‘the boy upstairs’.

I thought this book was very unusual. My favorite part was when the boy threw the pick axe at the hole in the clock where the borrows used to come in and out of to borrow. Another one of my favorite parts was when every night the boy would tear the borrows roof off and give them furniture from the dolls house. My favorite character was the boy because he was the same age as me and he likes the same things I do. He’s also quite funny and very nice. I’d recommend this book to people who enjoy interesting and unusual books.

I thought that it was a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish. My favourite character was Pod because he was responsible and a bit relaxed about the rules at the same time

I read this book with my mum and sister. It's very old fashioned, but I like the story line.

This book is amazing!! I love how it introduces the borrowers, who do act as if they are big people, who are scared of the dangers (us humans) in this world. They are adorable and I love how they use old objects that you wouldn't even notice lying around the house, and transform them into fantastic things for their home!

I was keen to read this because I wanted to watch the film Arriety.

I loved the character of Arriety, she was clever and brave. Homily made me laugh, she was always so worried about Arriety and Pod.

The way it was set in the past was interesting because I found out a lot about how houses, big ones, used to be run.

I would recommend the whole series but only to keen readers.

I read this with mum and Finn. I loved the fact that the Borrowers have their own little world under the floorboards!

I loved the thought of having little people living under the house. I also thought it was clever how they made things which are small into big things for them, like the thimble into a cooking pot.

My favourite character is Arrietty Clock. She is a tiny teenage almost 14 in June. She live with her parents. They are the borrowers.

Normally borrowers lived under the floor of the human's house. They only borrow when human are not around. They only borrowers sugar, toilet or any things to keep them alive.

However when she made a friend of a human boy. His aunt discovered her and her family. And because they were seen, they have to flee and go to another place.

The concept of how little people survive in the human world is such an interesting one. I loved this so much I finished it in a day. I recommend it to anyone who loves adventure stories with thrills. Yesterday I watched the Studio Ghibli anime movie adaption of this book called Arrietty (which is the name of one of the main characters) on Netflix and although it did deviate from the book plot it is so worth checking out if you have access to it. The book is full of thrills, twists and turns and characters who you love to hate! I recommend reading the book before the film, and the book does have some slightly old fashioned language so it might be a struggle to get through for some people, but it definitely worth it. Stay safe at home during Covid and peace out everyone!

I liked it because the characters were little people who could survive from borrowing things from the human beans.

It was a very interesting point of view about being tiny and about seeing the world in a different light. The book was all about a little girl called Arrietty and her parents, Pod and Homily. They had adventures and Borrowed normal house items and then left discover about a boy and their borrowing issues of being"seen". It was interesting, I was so gripped, I didn't really know when to put it down, it makes your mind grow with so many ideas and thoughts to make you read on.

27 Jul 2020

Fictional book. My favourite character was Arietty because she never gives up on her dreams of becoming a proper borrower.
Definitely recommend to my friends.
